View, California - Mountain View Technical Center About the Team: Join our innovative AI Research team, reporting directly to the Chief AI Officer, as we lead advancements in machine learning to reshape vehicle design, manufacturing, and user experience. We are creating the next generation of intelligent systems by integrating multimodal foundation models, generative AI, robotics, and predictive maintenance into groundbreaking automotive innovations. The Role: As a Junior Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a vital role in developing end-to-end AI/ML systems that address significant challenges in robotics and manufacturing at scale. Collaborate with seasoned engineers and researchers to design, prototype, and deploy advanced AI models applicable to vehicle design, manufacturing operations, robotics, and physical system simulations. This is a fantastic opportunity to translate innovative research into practical applications, work alongside a world-class team of experts, and enhance your skills while contributing to GM's AI research initiatives. What You'll Do: Adapt machine learning architectures for complex industrial applications, including computer vision, robotic manipulation, predictive maintenance, and process optimization. Build comprehensive deep learning pipelines that manage multi-modal sensor data such as vision, force/torque, proprioception, and environmental sensors. Develop foundation models and transfer learning frameworks that effectively generalize across various industrial scenarios. Design data collection and annotation strategies to create high-quality datasets for model training and validation. Collaborate with partner teams to translate technical requirements into effective ML solutions and facilitate integration efforts. Oversee the deployment and monitoring of ML models in production settings. Publish research findings in prominent venues, such as NeurIPS, ICML, and CVPR, and enhance GM's visibility within the research community. Minimum Qualifications: Pursuing or has completed a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related STEM field; or holds a Master's degree with significant AI/ML contributions and at least one year of relevant industry experience or publications. Able to work full time, 40 hours per week. What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): In-depth knowledge of modern deep learning architectures, including Transformers, Diffusion Models, CNNs, and scaling model training techniques. Strong hands-on experience with at least one popular AI/ML framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, or JAX). Experience in anomaly detection and predictive maintenance applications through coursework, research, or projects. Familiarity with reinforcement learning for robotic control or process optimization through coursework, research, or projects. Experience in training multimodal deep learning models. Demonstrated research contributions in AI/ML technologies through publications at top-tier conferences or journals. Ability to formulate research questions from ambiguous problems and utilize rigorous experimental methodologies, including hypothesis formation and statistical analysis. Strong programming skills in Python, along with familiarity in one or more systems languages (C++/Java). Compensation: The salary range for this role is from $130,000 to $170,000. The actual base salary will depend on various factors relevant to the position. Bonus Potential:
