DESCRIPTION: The Central Data Engineering and Analytics team sits at the heart of North America Stores, powering data-driven decision-making across the entire retail organization. We are the foundational analytics engine supporting every aspect of the customer shopping experience, from the moment a customer searches for camping gear or automotive parts, to when they discover the perfect toy or upgrade their home electronics.
As the central BI and analytics hub for North America Stores, we partner with retail teams across Electronics, Fashion and Fitness, Apparel, Consumables, Home & Lifestyle, and specialized programs including AVS (Amazon Vendor Services), Selection, Deals and Promotions, Direct Imports, and more. Our mission is to transform how thousands of retail employees, from Vendor Managers and Instock Managers to Marketing teams and senior leadership, access insights and make decisions.
We're at an inflection point in business intelligence. We're evolving from traditional dashboards and reports to conversational analytics platforms powered by AI. Our team is building the next generation of data foundations that enable natural language querying, automated insights generation, and AI-driven optimization, reducing the time retail employees spend on insight generation.
What Makes This Role Unique: This isn't traditional BI engineering. You'll be building AI data foundations, the knowledge bases, semantic layers, and conversational interfaces that power our AI agents. You'll work at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and artificial intelligence, creating systems that understand business context and deliver insights through natural conversation.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
AI Data Foundations: Design knowledge bases, semantic layers, and data architectures for AI-powered analytics agents and conversational interfaces Analytics Solutions: Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and reports driving key business decisions across North America Stores retail programs Testing & Quality: Build comprehensive frameworks for SQL integration testing, data validation, and AI-generated insights accuracy Conversational Analytics: Enable natural language querying and automated narrative generation from complex retail datasets Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Vendor Managers, Instock teams, Marketing, and leadership across AVS, Selection, Deals, and other programs Insights & Action: Analyze metrics to uncover trends, identify root causes, and deliver actionable insights that drive business growth Self-Service Enablement: Create scalable platforms that democratize data access and reduce dependency on BI support BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience - 3+ years of SQL, ETL or Oracle experience - 2+ years of processing large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources experience - 2+ years of performing statistical analysis experience - 3+ years of developing automated reporting experience - Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools - Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines - Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab - Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift - 5+ years of processing large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources experience - Experience with statistical methods like A/B Testing or regressions - Experience with AI/ML concepts, particularly LLMs and generative AI applications - Knowledge of RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) architectures and vector databases - Experience building knowledge bases or semantic search solutions

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
