Job Description
Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, fuelled by world-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too.
About the Role:
This is a great opportunity to join a global energy technology leader advancing the future of subsurface imaging, geophysical analysis and QI. As part of bp’s Imaging Technology team, you will use cutting‑edge geophysical methods, high‑performance computing, and modern quantitative interpretation techniques to help unlock subsurface understanding and support smarter, safer, and more confident decision‑making across bp’s global portfolio.
You will work alongside a diverse community of geoscientists, data specialists, and engineers, with access to state‑of‑the‑art tools and computational resources that enable high‑impact technical innovation. The Imaging Technology team focuses on delivering advanced imaging, modelling, and subsurface uncertainty analysis to support exploration, development, and production activities worldwide. Our mission is to push the boundaries of geophysical insight and deliver technology that brings value by enabling bp to make better, safer, and more commercially rewarding decisions with a thorough understanding of the range of outcomes.
What You’ll Do:
Develop novel approaches to quantitative seismic analysis and subsurface uncertainty characterization
Develop and deploy advanced solutions to common geophysical analysis workflow elements, including but not limited to well ties, seismic modeling, seismic attribute design and analysis, seismic inversion, etc.
Build and deploy advanced methodologies across geophysical workflows, including well ties, seismic modelling, seismic attribute design, and seismic inversion
Integrate seismic‑based interpretations and uncertainty products into broader subsurface workflows
Combine geophysical, geological, and petrophysical inputs to constrain subsurface property estimation
Explore the application of machine learning and AI to accelerate or enhance the pursuit of these themes
What You Bring:
We are looking for someone who is eager to innovate, collaborate and continuously learn. The ideal candidate will have:
MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
Significant experience working with geophysics in the energy industry
A curious, problem-solving mindset with adaptability and initiative
Hands-on experience with seismic analysis and inversion, and familiarity with reservoir property prediction and AVO/AVA techniques
Basic programming skills (e.g. Python, C, C++, MATLAB, etc) and experience with code management systems (e.g. Git)
Exposure to machine learning, data analytics, and/or high-performance computing environments
Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts to specialists and non‑specialists alike
