Opportunity
Northramp is seeking an Enterprise Solutions Architect to support the NIH Center for Information Technology (CIT) Cloud Services organization and the STRIDES Initiative. This role provides enterprise architecture leadership for the evaluation, integration, and adoption of enterprise software platforms that support NIH researchers, program teams, and scientific collaboration environments.
The Enterprise Solutions Architect will work across CIT service areas to evaluate new enterprise platforms, define integration patterns, and guide architectural decisions that align with NIH cloud architecture, security controls, identity services, and operational practices. This role supports the lifecycle of enterprise products from evaluation and pilot implementation through enterprise adoption and transition to operational support teams.
This role is remote-first, with a preference for candidates in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington DC, allowing for limited onsite customer and team interaction.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture & Platform Evaluation
Lead architectural evaluation of new enterprise software platforms proposed for NIH-wide adoption.
Define enterprise integration patterns across NIH systems including cloud platforms, identity services, data platforms, and collaboration tools.
Develop solution architectures that align with NIH enterprise architecture standards and security requirements.
Collaborate with product vendors to evaluate technical architecture, deployment models, security posture, and operational requirements.
Integration & Technical Governance
Define and enforce enterprise integration patterns and architecture standards across implementations.
Coordinate architecture alignment across CIT service areas including Cloud Services, Enterprise Platform Services, Identity and Access Management, and Operations Management Services.
Develop architecture documentation including solution diagrams, integration models, and platform reference architectures.
Participate in technical governance processes and architecture review boards to ensure enterprise alignment.
Adoption & Operational Transition
Provide architectural input into platform selection decisions, ensuring alignment with NIH technical standards, security requirements, and operational models.
Support transition planning for new enterprise platforms into operational support organizations after the initial rollout period.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.
Google Cloud Professional Architect (or equivalent Google Cloud certification).
10+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise software solutions.
Experience developing enterprise architecture for cloud-based platforms and SaaS environments.
Experience evaluating and integrating enterprise software products across large organizations.
Experience with enterprise integration patterns including APIs, identity federation, and data exchange architectures.
Experience working with major cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
Strong understanding of enterprise security architecture and compliance frameworks.
Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders to guide platform adoption decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting federal government IT environments.
Familiarity with NIH enterprise systems and research computing environments.
Experience integrating enterprise SaaS platforms such as Atlassian products, Slack, MATLAB, SAS, or similar scientific software platforms.
Experience supporting enterprise architecture governance and review boards.
Experience working in Agile product or platform development environments.
Familiarity with identity and access management platforms and enterprise collaboration systems.
