About Easthorpe School

Welcome to Easthorpe School , an independent specialist provision dedicated to serving children and young people in the East Midlands. We opened our doors in November 2022 and are excited to expand our team to support the growing number of pupils in our Lower School (ages 7-13).

With class sizes capped at just 6 pupils, each classroom is supported by a qualified teacher and up to 2 teaching assistants. Our focus is on pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), as well as various diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and more.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced teaching assistants to help shape our new provision and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our pupils. You’ll have the chance to develop your skills while focusing on areas that resonate with your interests, such as food hygiene, Forest School, sports, therapy, or emotional literacy.

Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils.
  • Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons.
  • Report on pupils' progress and concerns, collaborating with other staff to meet their needs.
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extracurricular activities and school trips.
  • Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Set work where appropriate and provide marking support.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to foster interaction and positive learning outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
  • A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas like Food Hygiene, Forest School, or School Yoga.
  • Experience in behavior management techniques.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
What We Offer You
  • A workplace that prioritizes the emotional health and wellbeing of everyone, including you!
  • Support for your professional development through a variety of opportunities.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children who deserve high-quality teaching in a safe environment.
  • A friendly and inclusive team passionate about improving pupil outcomes.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, the cost of which will be covered by Selwyn Hall School.

Easthorpe School is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from suitably qualified candidates. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff to share this commitment.
