Location: The Times Building, 11-12 D'Olier Street, Dublin 2. Status: Full time, Permanent. Salary: €96,967 - €149,389 (commensurate with experience and qualifications). Reports to: Manager Flight Operations (Scheduled Operations Division) or Manager Flight Operations (Non-Scheduled Operations Division, including Training Organisations/Examiners).

Job Description

Vacancies exist in the Flight Operations Department for the role of Flight Operations Inspector (FOI) - Fixed Wing Aircraft. The role will suit a highly motivated individual with an extensive background in Commercial Air Transport operations/training. The position will primarily report to the Manager Flight Operations, either Scheduled and Non-scheduled Divisions.

Responsibilities
  • Advise the Flight Operations Department Manager on matters concerning entry control for approval certificates issued to organisations or individuals for the provision of air services, pilot/aircrew training, aircraft operations, etc.;
  • Authorize approvals to individuals to carry out specific activities (e.g., organisation nominated persons);
  • Attest that individuals have the ability to safely exercise the privileges of an aircrew licence, certificate, rating or attestation;
  • Exercise surveillance to ensure airline compliance with regulatory safety standards, including audits, inspections, meetings with nominated persons, data analysis, incident/accident investigations, flight checks, and industry liaison;
  • Assist in ongoing airline operations analysis to determine flight safety trends;
  • Advise on exit control regarding variation, suspension, and disqualification of approvals, declarations, licences, certificates, and attestations;
  • Advise on detention of aircraft and exercise of exit control over those leaving the system;
  • Assist with technical advice in safety standards development and regulation development;
  • Maintain and preserve records related to airline operations per IAA document control policies;
  • Liaise with other IAA divisions and with State bodies, civil aviation authorities, industry bodies and the public on aviation matters;
  • Demonstrate excellent IT skills (including full O365) and proficiency with specialist software as required;

Qualifications and Skills

Note: The following is a concise summary of the essential requirements and is not an exhaustive list.

Required:

  • At least 10 years’ operational experience in air transport operations (min 5,000 hours) as a pilot, including considerable international operations;
  • Hold an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) issued by an EASA Member State;
  • Considerable experience as pilot-in-command of transport category multi‑engine aircraft with >19 passenger seats or >45,360 kg MTOW;
  • Experience in operational management within an air transport operation or as an (EASA) certified flight examiner/instructor;
  • Good working knowledge of aviation safety management systems and just culture;
  • Good working knowledge of Irish/EU/international safety regulations and standards;
  • Knowledge of ICAO, EASA and EC frameworks;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong management and organisational skills; ability to work under time pressure; willingness to travel extensively;
  • Experience as an Instructor (FI/TRI) and as a Pilot Examiner (FE/TRE);
  • Experience in airline/operator personnel assessment;
  • Good IT skills and proficiency with Office 365 and MS Office applications.
