About Easthorpe School

At Easthorpe School , we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and young people in the East Midlands. Our independent specialist provision opened its doors in November 2022, and we are excited to expand our team to support our growing Lower School (ages 7-13).

With class sizes capped at six pupils, each classroom is led by a qualified teacher and supported by up to two teaching assistants. We focus on pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and various diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and more.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced teaching assistants to help shape our new provision and enrich the lives of our pupils. You’ll have the chance to develop your skills while focusing on areas that align with your interests, such as food hygiene, Forest School, sports, therapy, or emotional literacy.

Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six.
  • Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons.
  • Report on pupils' progress and collaborate with other staff to meet their needs.
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extracurricular activities and school trips.
  • Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Set work and mark assignments as appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to foster interaction and positive learning outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
  • A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas like Food Hygiene, Forest School, or School Yoga.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
What We Offer You
  • A workplace that prioritizes the emotional health and wellbeing of everyone, including you!
  • Support for your professional development through a variety of opportunities.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children who deserve high-quality teaching in a safe environment.
  • A friendly, inclusive team passionate about improving pupil outcomes.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, with the cost covered by Selwyn Hall School.

Easthorpe School is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from suitably qualified candidates. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff to share this commitment.
