Holly Arboriculture is an arboricultural consultancy based in Cork, providing professional tree consultancy services across the south of Ireland. We work with architects, engineers, planners, developers and local authorities to support planning and infrastructure projects. Our work includes tree surveys, arboricultural impact assessments, tree health and condition assessments, tree risk management and advanced tree investigations using specialist diagnostic equipment, including sonic tomography and root stability testing systems. Our projects range from residential developments and public realm improvements to greenways, flood relief schemes, infrastructure works and golf courses. As demand for our services continues to grow, we are looking to expand our team with an Arboricultural Consultant who is interested in developing their career within a specialist consultancy environment.


The Opportunity


This role offers the opportunity to work within a growing consultancy where your work has a direct impact on project outcomes.


You will be involved in a wide range of projects across the south of Ireland.


The successful candidate will work closely with the Technical Director, gaining experience across all aspects of arboricultural consultancy including site surveys, impact assessments and construction monitoring.


You will also gain exposure to advanced tree assessment technologies including sonic tomography and root stability testing equipment.


For a consultant who already has some experience in the field and is looking to further develop their expertise, this role offers the opportunity to deepen technical knowledge while working on meaningful projects.


Role Overview

The Arboricultural Consultant will assist in delivering arboricultural consultancy services including tree surveys, report preparation and construction monitoring.


The role will involve a mix of site work and office-based technical work.


The consultant will undertake surveys and prepare draft reports which will be reviewed by the Technical Director before submission to clients.


This position provides the opportunity to develop technical expertise while working closely with an experienced arboricultural consultant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake BS5837 tree surveys on development sites.
  • Collect and record tree data using digital survey equipment.
  • Capture photographic records of trees and site conditions.
  • Prepare draft arboricultural reports including:

    • Arboricultural Impact Assessments
    • Arboricultural Method Statements
    • Tree survey schedules

  • Prepare CAD drawings including Tree Protection Plans.
  • Assist with site monitoring visits during construction to ensure compliance with tree protection measures.
  • Assist with tree risk assessments where required.
  • Assist with advanced tree investigations using specialist diagnostic equipment

Ideal Candidate

Education


Level 6 qualification in Arboriculture, Forestry or a related discipline.


Experience


Approximately 3–6 years experience working in arboricultural consultancy.


Applicants should already have experience undertaking tree surveys and contributing to arboricultural reports.


Technical Skills



  • Strong tree species identification.
  • Experience undertaking BS5837 tree surveys.
  • Clear and structured technical report writing.
  • Basic CAD capability (AutoCAD or similar).
  • Additional experience that would be beneficial:

    • Construction stage monitoring
    • Tree risk assessment
    • Tree decay and fungi identification


Personal Qualities

  • Ability to work independently on site.
  • Strong attention to detail when collecting survey data.
  • Good problem solving ability when assessing development constraints.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Interest in continuing to develop technical knowledge within arboriculture.
  • Comfortable working in a small collaborative team.

Working Structure

The role typically involves a combination of site surveys and office-based report preparation.


Typical weekly structure:


2 days report preparation and CAD drawings


The successful candidate will work closely with the Technical Director who will provide technical review, feedback and guidance.


Location

The role is based in Cork, with projects primarily located across Munster including Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Waterford.


Applicants should be comfortable travelling to sites across the region, have their own card and a clean driving license.
