Lead Data Engineer
who will be instrumental in crafting, optimizing, and managing robust data pipelines and systems in support of HUD AI/ML initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring that our data workflows are efficient, scalable, and secure, facilitating machine learning, advanced analytics, and seamless AI integration. This is a fully remote position that requires support for a federal government contract, including a federal background check and NACI clearance. Candidates must reside within the United States. Your Responsibilities Design and optimize data pipelines and architectures specifically for AI/ML workflows on diverse cloud platforms. Develop efficient ETL/ELT processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility. Configure and manage cloud infrastructures suitable for AI/ML (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI). Collaborate closely with Data Scientists to operationalize models and build scalable AI solutions. Implement rigorous data governance principles, including versioning and lineage tracking to ensure compliance. Regularly monitor and maintain high-performance data systems, optimizing for maximum throughput. Required Skills and Experience 5+ years of proven experience in data engineering specifically for AI/ML workflows. Extensive expertise in cloud-native data systems and large-scale data processing. Familiarity with AI/ML pipelines, reproducible workflows, and adherence to federal compliance standards. Experience supporting HUD OCIO is preferred. Must be able to pass the required Federal background screening and maintain government clearance. Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship. Technical Proficiencies Proficient in cloud platforms such as AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, S3, Redshift, and Data Factory. Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks like Airflow, Spark, and Databricks. Strong skills in data modeling, schema design, and optimization for AI workloads. Programming expertise in Python and SQL. Knowledge of version control systems (Git/GitHub/GitLab). Experience with data governance, metadata management, and logging practices. Core Competencies Collaborative mindset to work effectively with Data Scientists, DevOps, and UX teams. Proficient problem-solving skills for creating scalable AI/ML pipelines. Ability to document processes and ensure reproducible workflows. Agile development mindset focused on iterative improvement. Awareness of security, privacy, and compliance regulations. Educational Background Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Relevant certifications in cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure) are preferred. Work Environment and Requirements Candidates must live within commuting distance of Washington, D.C. Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time within the U.S. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; some lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be required.
