About Us The AI Cloud and Developer Infrastructure organization empowers engineers by providing the tools and services they need to excel in their work and progress our automotive innovations. We focus on enhancing the development process for our engineers including how code is checked out, modified, compiled, tested, merged, and deployed. Our mission is to equip our AV engineers and team members with world-class tools, fostering a seamless development experience that allows them to concentrate on the critical problems in their fields. The Role We are seeking a Senior Engineer with a rich engineering background, who is well-versed in various developer tools and technologies, and is passionate about enhancing developer productivity. As an individual contributor leader on our team, we are looking for someone committed to the technical advancement of their peers, effectively balancing the needs of the business, our customers, and the growth of our engineers. The Team As part of the AV Developer Productivity organization, the AV Developer Experience team is responsible for creating and maintaining a robust, reliable, and cohesive development experience for AV developers, ensuring efficiency in code production at Cruise. We achieve this through a blend of proprietary tools, vendor tools, and integrations. The impact of this engineer will depend on various circumstances, with an expectation to identify the best pathways to deliver results with minimal oversight. What You'll Do Identify engineering pain points and propose, design, and implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
Synthesize comprehensive information from various sources to set priorities and influence the technical roadmap.
Assess new tools and technologies through proof of concepts (PoCs).
Deliver improvements to our AV development toolchains and services that have a measurable impact on engineering productivity and core company metrics.
Promote software engineering best practices within the team and create supportive tooling.
Shape the engineering culture on the team.
Guide the balance between delivering impactful solutions and managing technical debt.
Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team.
Lead by example with high levels of accountability.
Independently execute to deliver both individual and team impacts.
Establish clear boundaries when prioritizing external requests, pushing back when necessary to align with our team vision.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 3+ years of experience in designing, building, and operating cloud production systems at scale.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Understanding of AI Engineering principles and concepts.
Experience in designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.
Proficiency in Go or equivalent languages at production scale.
Familiarity with Unix/Linux systems, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
Strong attention to detail and a drive for process and system improvement.
Ability to lead and influence team dynamics and external stakeholders.
Proven reasoning skills with the capacity to research, document, and effectively communicate and defend proposals.
Capability to manage competing priorities and work efficiently under pressure.
Enthusiasm for mentoring and fostering the growth of junior engineers.
Commitment to enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the team.
A passion for self-driving technology and its transformative potential.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Experience in GCP and other cloud services.
Familiarity with gPRC, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Experience contributing to or owning open-source projects.
Compensation:
This compensation information is a good faith estimate based on potential pay for this position. The salary range for this role is $108,420 to $161,500, varying based on factors relevant to the position. Bonus Potential: Performance-based incentive pay is available depending on company and individual performance.

Relocation:
This role may be eligible for relocation benefits. This role is hybrid, with a requirement to report to a specified location at least three times a week.
