School Caretaker

Basic Salary: £23,878.59
Contract: Full-time
Core Hours: 35 hours per week

We are on the lookout for a passionate School Caretaker to join our team! In this vital role, you will ensure the maintenance, security, and cleanliness of our school premises. You will be the face of the school when working with contractors and suppliers, making sure our environment is safe and welcoming.

• Maintain clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds.
• Perform cleaning, handyperson tasks, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Supervise school cleaning staff to ensure high standards.
• Promote health and safety throughout the school.
• Handle porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
• Report any maintenance issues to the Head Teacher.
• Manage small repairs and DIY projects.
• Coordinate larger repairs and obtain quotes from contractors.
• Conduct daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking.
• Respond to emergency cleaning needs, such as gritting and spillages.
• Organize an annual deep clean of key areas within the school.
• Maintain cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels.
• Secure the school premises as the main key holder, locking and unlocking as needed.
• Conduct regular checks of security systems and report any issues.
• Advise the Head Teacher on security and safety matters, ensuring compliance with legislation.

• Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools.
• Previous caretaking experience in a school environment.
• Experience in building maintenance and security systems.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Basic DIY skills and good interpersonal abilities.
• Literacy and numeracy skills to effectively communicate and manage tasks.
• A willingness to work in an environment with SEMH children.
• Must be prepared to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, with costs covered by ISP.
