FLS Automation Engineer

SimoTech has a requirement to join our Automation Front Line Support (FLS) Team, working on site supporting one of our clients at a large-scale greenfield biopharmaceutical facility in Limerick. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and optimising the DeltaV system, ensuring the smooth operation and optimisation of critical automation systems, all while ensuring compliance with industry standards.


In this role you will be a key member of the 24/7 Automation FLS Team tasked with maintaining and performing preventative and corrective tasks for the automation systems, in accordance with GAMP standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience as a DeltaV Automation Engineer, with hands on batch troubleshooting skills within the life sciences industries.


This position will commence on a remote basis for an initial period of approximately 6–9 months, with remote work ideally based from India. Following this initial phase, the role will transition to an onsite setup in Ireland. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Ireland when required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time front-line support to Automation and Production teams in accordance with GAMP standards.
  • Perform both preventive and corrective maintenance on automation systems to ensure optimal reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system software and hardware issues.
  • Investigate and diagnose process issues related to the control systems.
  • Develop and apply effective solutions to technical problems identified.
  • Work on automation system changes.
  • Collaborate closely with operational staff across all levels of the client organisation.
  • Maintain system documentation.
  • Augment programming code for manufacturing equipment.
  • Prepare and present structured, comprehensive, detailed written reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a DeltaV Automation Engineer within the life sciences industries.
  • Previous site experience working on a pharmaceutical or biotechnology batch automation project is essential.
  • Excellent diagnostics skills with the ability to think laterally.
  • Ability to resolve complex automation issues in high-pressue, fast-paced manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of S-88 Batch Standard is essential with onsite exposure to batch process preferred.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with regulated industry standards, including exposure to cGMP, GAMP and 21 CFR Part 11.
  • Working knowledge of MES Syncade is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with strong spoken and written English.
  • Willing to work 24/7/365 shift (alternating days and nights) and in a team environment.
