Financial Controller | High-Growth Engineering & Projects Business

We’re partnering with a privately owned, high-growth engineering and construction business that has built an outstanding reputation for quality delivery and repeat clients.

Having grown rapidly over the past few years — including significant investment in new facilities and the successful delivery of complex, multi-million-euro projects (both locally and internationally) — the business is now entering its next phase of growth. To support this, they’re making a key senior finance hire.

This is a hands-on Financial Controller role with genuine influence, autonomy, and a clear pathway to Finance Director / Commercial Director for the right person.

Location wise, this is based 25 mins from Limerick city.

This role exists to bring strong financial control, governance, and commercial insight into a fast-moving, project-based environment.

You’ll work directly with the Managing Director as a trusted financial partner, taking full ownership of the finance function and helping the business scale in a controlled, profitable way.

This is not a transactional role — it’s about judgement, leadership, and commercial impact.

• End-to-end ownership of the finance function
  
• Cashflow management and short- to medium-term forecasting
  
• Monthly management accounts and financial reporting
  
• Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  
• Oversight of payroll, AP/AR, and general ledger

• Review job costing, project profitability, and margins
  
• Partner with the MD and Project Managers on commercial decisions
  
• Support pricing, tenders, and risk assessment
  
• Improve financial handover from tender stage to live projects

• Manage year-end process and liaise with external accountants/auditors
  
• Ensure compliance across tax, VAT, payroll, and statutory filings
  
• Strengthen financial controls and governance as the business grows
  
• Improve financial systems, reporting, and visibility
  
• Reduce reliance on manual or informal processes
  
• Introduce structure without unnecessary bureaucracy
  
• Support international expansion and business scaling

• Proven experience running xcfaprz the full finance function in an SME
  
• Strong cashflow management and commercial acumen
  
• Experience in project-based, engineering, construction, or manufacturing environments (highly desirable)
  
• Confident communicator who can challenge constructively
  
• Comfortable working closely with a founder / Managing Director
  
• Accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or similar) preferred
