The
Information Technology Manager
position is an onsite position based out of Kennedy Secondary School and works year-round. The compensation package includes health insurance, life insurance, 403b contribution, long term disability, and retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement Association-PERA, along with sick and personal leave and an annual salary in the range of $98,000 - $116,000 (actual compensation will be based on experience, skills, education and performance).
JOB SUMMARY: The Technology Systems Manager provides strategic oversight, complex system integration, hands-on technical administration, and direct supervision of the District's technology staff. This individual is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of the core technical infrastructure while aligning technology initiatives with the District's mission. The manager ensures that critical systems are operational and optimized to support a safe and productive learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in information systems or related field with 3-5 years of progressive experience in systems administration including at least 2 years in a leadership or project management capacity. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered. • Demonstrated experience with complex technology infrastructure, cloud environments, and networking, and the willingness and ability to learn and adapt to emerging technologies as District needs evolve. • Functional knowledge of industry standard cabling and data center best practices. • Experience managing IP-based physical security technology, including camera systems and networked access control. • Proven ability to perform complex root-cause analysis and high-level hardware/software troubleshooting. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders. • Experience in mentoring and training technical staff fostering a culture of growth & high performance. • Excellent organizational skill, including the ability to manage high-priority projects and district-wide deployments simultaneously. • Commitment to maintaining data privacy and confidentiality in accordance with state and federal regulations and policy. • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The tasks listed below are not intended to limit other tasks that might reasonably be assigned as necessary.
Strategic Oversight & Planning: • Develops and implements a multi-year technology strategic plan aligned with the District's educational goals and board policies. • Manages the technology department budget, including forecasting expenditures, approving purchases, and maximizing funding through effective E-Rate filing and other grant opportunities. • Establishes and maintains vendor relationships, negotiates contracts, and ensures service level agreements are met. • Acts as the primary technical liaison between the tech department, district leadership, building principals, and teachers maintaining professional and effective communication. • Translates complex technical requirements into actionable plans and clearly communicates project status and technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Administration and Infrastructure: • Leads the hands-on design, installation, and maintenance of the district's physical and virtual infrastructure ensuring compliance with current industry recognized standards and best practices. • Directly configures, monitors, and manages the day to day operations of network connectivity, server environments (physical and virtual), cloud services, and district hardware to maximize uptime & performance. • Directs the complex integration of critical district software ecosystems and educational applications ensuring secure, accurate data synchronization and seamless functionality across all technical platforms. • Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware and software issues across all systems utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to identify root causes and implement timely hands-on technical solutions to minimize downtime. • Maintains an accurate, real-time inventory and asset management process for all district hardware and software, overseeing and planning for the full lifecycle from procurement and deployment to server decommissioning and disposal.
Security, Privacy, and Compliance: • Develops and enforces comprehensive cybersecurity policies to protect District data, staff, and student privacy. • Implements technical controls and audit protocols to ensure system-wide compliance with FERPA and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA), safeguarding student and staff data privacy through robust encryption, access management, and vulnerability scanning. • Implements comprehensive data protection strategies, ensuring high-availability backups and reliable system restoration protocols to prevent data loss across all District servers, cloud environments, and critical applications. • Oversees the technical accuracy and secure transmission of data for state and federal reporting requirements, including mandated Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) data submissions. • Manages the technical administration of IP-based camera systems, networked building access control hardware, and related video technology, ensuring secure network integration, reliable data storage, and functionality for District operational needs.
Supervisory and Team Leadership: • Provides direct supervision, mentoring, and performance evaluation for the technology staff. • Designs and conducts internal training sessions for technology staff to ensure team proficiency in supporting District infrastructure, security protocols, and specialized software systems. • Develops workflows and ticket management processes to ensure prompt and efficient technical support for staff and students across all District locations. • Promotes a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous professional development within the tech team in achievement of our district mission. • Proactively researches and stays abreast of emerging technology trends and educational innovations, recommending strategic adoptions to ensure the District remains future-ready and efficient.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (servers, switches, UPS units) • Ability to climb ladders ( access cameras and wireless access points) • Travel between assigned locations

The Fergus Falls School District is located in the beautiful Lakes Country of west central Minnesota in Otter Tail County and is currently comprised of four elementary schools serving grades Pre-K-5, the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center serving grades 4-5, one secondary school that provides education to our middle school and high school students (grades 6-12), a K-12 online school, and an Area Learning Center.
