As a critical component of Coinbase, Ledger handles billions in transactions and safeguards the assets of millions. As we continue to grow, the complexity of our operations has far exceeded our initial designs for Ledger and fund management systems. This presents a unique and exciting opportunity to rearchitect foundational infrastructure that will guide Coinbase's success into the next decade. We are looking for a technical leader to oversee the architectural direction of Ledger, drive platform enhancements, and lead cross-functional initiatives with significant impact. You will be responsible for making vital technical decisions, elevating engineering quality, and shaping how we create robust, scalable systems capable of processing billions of transactions. Your Responsibilities: Design and develop foundational backend systems prioritizing performance, scalability, and reliability.
Guide strategic technical direction for intricate, cross-team projects.
Establish and refine platform best practices, frameworks, and architectural standards within the team.
Provide deep technical mentorship, influence design decisions, and raise the engineering quality bar.
Collaborate with product, finance, and engineering leaders to shape the team's technical roadmap.
Drive system enhancements by integrating AI into engineering and operational practices.
What We Seek in You: 8+ years of experience building and managing large-scale distributed systems in production.
Deep expertise in backend programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java) and cloud-native architectures.
Demonstrated history of designing high-availability, high-performance systems.
Ability to predict scaling challenges and implement proactive solutions.
Experience leading cross-functional technical projects and mentoring fellow engineers.
Skill at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in designing and managing ledgering or trading systems at scale.
Familiarity with financial data, accounting systems, or high-precision transaction processing.
Proficiency with Go, Kubernetes, Postgres, or comparable technologies.
You have experienced rapid growth within your company, transitioning from startup to mid-size.

Depending on your location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $218,025 to $256,500 USD. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, along with benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
