Apella is seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer to join our team in Bristol. The role focuses on stabilising and evolving our core event-matching platform while integrating modern services such as community engagement platforms and CRM systems.
The successful candidate will work across both backend and frontend systems, helping to improve platform reliability, resolve legacy issues, and contribute to new integrations that support our evolving product strategy.
This role is well-suited to a developer who enjoys working in complex systems, solving real operational problems, and building pragmatic solutions that support scalable event and community platforms.
*What you will be doing*
*Platform Development*
* Develop and maintain core features of the Apella platform across both backend and
* frontend layers.
* Improve the reliability and performance of the event matching and scheduling system.
* Implement improvements to user preference selection, scheduling logic, and company
* profile management.
* Contribute to stabilising legacy components while introducing cleaner architectural
* patterns.
*Integration Development*
* Build and maintain integrations with external platforms, including:
* CRM systems (e.g. HubSpot)
* Community platforms (e.g. Circle.io)
* Messaging providers (SMS and email)
* Develop APIs and services that move data between systems securely and reliably.
* Support the extraction and operation of the matching algorithm and associated data
*Front-End Improvements*
* Improve the usability and consistency of the event participant interface.
* Address navigation, routing, and state-management issues within the application.
* Collaborate with designers to improve the event configuration dashboard and the new “Builder” workflow.
*System Stability and Quality*
* Identify and resolve bugs impacting event delivery and user experience.
* Improve validation logic, permissions models, and role-based access control.
* Contribute to testing and regression prevention.

*Collaboration*
* Work closely with the Product Owner, Outsource agencies and UX designers.
* Participate in sprint planning and engineering discussions.
* Support operational teams when diagnosing issues impacting live events.
*Technical Skills*
* Strong full-stack development experience.
* Experience with modern web frameworks and front-end technologies
* (JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or similar).
* Backend development experience (e.g. PHP/Laravel, Node.js, or similar web
* frameworks).
* Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
* Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. MySQL or PostgreSQL).
* Experience in debugging and improving legacy codebases.
* Integration & Data
* Experience integrating third-party APIs.
* Understanding of data synchronisation between systems.
* Familiarity with message queues or asynchronous processing is advantageous.
*Engineering Practices*
* Git-based development workflows.
* Writing maintainable, well-structured Laravel code.
* Experience working in agile teams
*Desirable Experience*
* Experience working with event technology platforms or community platforms.
* Familiarity with CRM integrations (particularly HubSpot).
* Experience with authentication systems and role-based permissions.
* Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar).
* Exposure to DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines.

On-site at Jubilee Place, Bristol, BS1 6PE on your scheduled working days.

Competitive package based on experience,
