Porte is seeking an experienced and relationship‑driven Director, Development to lead development activities across Calgary and Alberta. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Development, this role will drive execution, strengthen municipal and industry relationships, and shape the continued evolution of Porte’s presence in the region.

This is a hands‑on, high‑visibility leadership role suited to a senior development professional who thrives on ownership, accountability, and community‑focused execution. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of rental projects, lead them through the full development lifecycle, and represent Porte with key municipal, consultant, and industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

You will advance Porte’s Calgary and Alberta development pipeline from feasibility through design, approvals, construction, and completion. This includes managing budgets, proformas, schedules, and consultant teams to ensure all projects meet Porte’s quality, financial, and design expectations. The role requires disciplined governance, timely decision‑making, and proactive problem‑solving across the portfolio.

You will lead municipal approval processes and maintain strong relationships with key local stakeholders, supporting efficient decision‑making, value engineering, and effective risk management throughout the development cycle.

Working closely with the Senior Vice President, Development, you will ensure Calgary initiatives align with corporate strategy. You will also collaborate with Acquisitions, Construction, Finance, Marketing, Leasing, and Customer Care to support seamless project delivery and strong cross‑functional alignment.

As the senior development presence in Alberta, you will model the Porte Promises: people‑focused, committed to excellence, trustworthy, and a community builder, while fostering a collaborative, high‑performing culture within the Calgary office.

About You

• 12+ years of progressive experience in real estate development with a track record of delivering complex projects from inception through completion.
• Deep experience in the Calgary development market, with strong municipal, consultant, and industry relationships.
• Expertise in development finance, construction processes, approvals, design coordination, and project governance.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and maintain accountability in a fast‑paced environment.
• A confident, relationship‑oriented leader who represents the organization professionally and builds trust with external partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Urban Land Economics, Business, Planning, or a related field (MBA considered an asset).
