As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Compliance Engineer who thrives in regulated, technical environments and wants to play a critical role in ensuring product excellence and safety.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Compliance Engineer to lead and manage product certification and regulatory compliance for hazardous location equipment and automation systems.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Etobicoke, ON , where you will work closely with engineering, production, and regulatory agencies to ensure our products meet global standards such as ATEX, IECEx, UL, ETL, and CSA.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain certification plans, schedules, and compliance checklists.
- Manage ongoing certification requirements and renewal processes.
- Compile and maintain ATEX Technical Dossiers (risk assessments, drawings, BOMs).
- Prepare detailed test reports and safety documentation for UL/ETL certifications.
- Review equipment against standards such as IEC/EN 60079 series (Explosive Atmospheres), UL 1203 (Explosion-Proof Equipment) etc.
- Conduct risk assessments and validate product safety.
- Serve as the primary contact for ATEX, IECEx, UL, ETL and CSA
- Negotiate interpretations and manage project scope.
- Establish test programs and prepare lab instruction sheets.
- Witness and oversee physical testing (thermal, flammability, shock, etc.).
- Support factory audits to maintain certification compliance.
Qualifications
- BEng in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- 3–6 years of experience in Hazardous Location (Ex Area) certification
- Strong experience with ATEX, IECEx, UL, ETL and CSA standards
- Deep understanding of Zone & Division classifications, Temperature classes, Protection methods (Intrinsic Safety, Explosion-Proof, etc.)
- High attention to detail and strong documentation skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- CompEx (Competency in Explosive Atmospheres)
- IECEx Personnel Competence (CoPC)
