Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Tooling Designer to lead the design, development, and optimization of molds used in thermo-compression molding processes. This role will be critical in ensuring high-quality, precise, and efficient tooling solutions for our automotive floor mat production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD modeling, tool & die and manufacturing process integration, with a focus on designing durable and high-performance molds for thermoformed products.
Compensation
Salary range: $75,000-88,000 (all-inclusive)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop precision tooling (dies, molds, and fixtures) for thermoformed and compression-molded automotive components.
- Create and refine CAD models and technical drawings for tooling, ensuring manufacturability and efficiency in the production process.
- Develop and implement additive manufacturing parameters to enhance mold quality, reduce production time, and minimize material waste.
- Conduct trials to assess mold performance, analyze results, and implement necessary design or process adjustments.
- Approve and refine tooling specifications, tolerances, and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with manufacturing team to optimize mold designs for cost-effective and high-quality production.
- Conduct feasibility studies and design validation to ensure tooling meets required tolerances and performance expectations.
- Optimize mold performance by analyzing cycle times, part quality, and thermal management.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance tooling durability, reduce maintenance downtime, and improve part quality.
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving for tooling-related production issues.
- Maintain detailed records of design iterations, DFMEA, root cause analysis, process parameters, and testing outcomes to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- Research and integrate emerging tooling technologies, automation, and advanced manufacturing methods
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool & Die Engineering, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in tool & die design, Matched Die Forming experience is an asset.
Expertise in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or CATIA) for designing complex tooling geometries.
Experience with 3D printing, mold fabrication, and tooling validation processes.
Proven track record of working with cross-functional teams
Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and simulation tools for mold performance evaluation is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot tooling-related manufacturing challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
