Maintenance Electrical Planner

Kitimat, BC

Contract: ASAP, 12 months

Rotation: 14/7

Introduction

This role is responsible for planning and developing high‑quality corrective maintenance work plans that are accurate in scope, timing, cost, and HSSE considerations. The Maintenance Electrical Planner converts corrective maintenance requirements into logical, executable task plans, enabling effective scheduling and safe, efficient maintenance execution.

The position also provides technical support, coaching, and mentoring to Maintenance within the assigned electrical discipline and supports site maintenance programs including Preventive Maintenance (PM), spare parts strategies, policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines, as well as day‑to‑day technical support for the operating site.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update operation steps for complex corrective maintenance activities to mitigate potential production impacts.
  • Create logical job task sequences to support safe, efficient, and cost‑effective execution.
  • Identify and mitigate safety, environmental, cost, and execution risks during the planning phase.
  • Define task scope including labor, materials, services, tools, durations, and cost estimates.
  • Identify and request required materials and services to minimize cost and schedule impacts.
  • Ensure all plans align with site standards, QA/QC requirements, permit‑to‑work expectations, and HSSE requirements.
  • Incorporate personal and process safety considerations into execution methods.
  • Provide realistic duration estimates to support optimized scheduling and resource utilization.
  • Conduct job site visits to validate field conditions and engage with Production as required.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams on complex, multi‑trade, high‑value, and safety‑critical work to improve work package quality.
  • Prepare complete work packages for field execution, including drawings, manuals, task lists, inspection and test plans, and reference documentation.
  • Minimize the use of generic material ordering; ensure parts are properly set up with material numbers in SAP when required.
  • Monitor critical planning dates and communicate deviations or deferrals to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review execution feedback to assess plan accuracy, level of detail, and actual labor hours, driving continuous improvement.
  • Update task lists, BOMs, and materials data based on feedback from frontline execution teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Technologist or Journeyman within the electrical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in maintenance planning.
  • Strong understanding of electric heat tracing systems (SR and MI).
  • Knowledge of industrial insulation systems and their interaction with EHT performance.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards (NEC/CEC), hazardous area classifications, and panel design.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, EHT design drawings, panel and cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and vendor documentation.

  • Experience with routine and corrective maintenance planning.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
