Onyx Fire Protection Inc. is a leading fire protection contractor delivering service, retrofit, and large-scale construction projects across Ontario. We specialize in sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and life-safety solutions for commercial, industrial, institutional, and mission-critical facilities.
As our project workload continues to grow, we are looking for a Project Purchaser to support our construction and service teams by managing material procurement, supplier coordination, and cost control from project award through close-out.
Role Summary:
The Project Purchaser plays a critical role in the success of Onyx projects by ensuring materials are sourced, purchased, tracked, and delivered in alignment with project schedules and budgets. This position works closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Field Teams to remove procurement bottlenecks and reduce schedule risk.
This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment where accuracy, follow-through, and proactive communication matter.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
- Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to identify material needs
- Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with project budgets and schedules
- Source materials from approved Onyx suppliers and manufacturers
- Ensure all materials comply with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications
Project & Schedule Support
- Coordinate material deliveries with Project Managers, Coordinators, and site teams
- Track material status from order placement through delivery and installation
- Proactively identify supply chain risks, long lead items, and potential delays
- Support revised scopes and change orders with updated procurement requirements
Vendor & Cost Control
- Maintain strong working relationships with Onyx suppliers and manufacturer reps
- Monitor pricing, lead times, substitutions, and backorders
- Assist with invoice review, matching, and discrepancy resolution
- Support preferred vendor programs and negotiated pricing strategies
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain accurate purchasing logs, order tracking, and delivery documentation
- Ensure purchasing activity follows internal controls and approval processes
- Support project close-out with material records, warranties, and O&M documentation
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in construction purchasing or project procurement (fire protection preferred)
- Working knowledge of fire protection materials and suppliers is a strong asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project / ERP systems
- Clear, professional communication with internal teams and external vendors
Preferred Experience
- Sprinkler systems (pipe, fittings, valves, heads, risers, accessories)
- Fire alarm or life-safety system materials
- Experience supporting service, retrofit, or large construction projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
