We are looking for a Finance and Planning Manager / Assistant Controller to join our Canadian operation providing support to our Canadian Timberlands organization as well as support for our Canadian Controller. Reporting into the Canadian Director of Finance, this is a new position and will be based in our office in Edmonton, AB. Presence at each of our Canadian sites will be required at times and therefore travel will be a part of the role. In this role, you will play a critical part in financial planning, forecasting, and strategic analysis to support timber harvesting, transportation, and forestry operations. With the added responsibilities of Assistant Controller for Canada this role will also assist with corporate governance.
In this role , your essential functions will be to:
- Manage all financial aspects of the Canadian Timberlands organization which operates in three provinces, manages over 4MM hectares, and has an annual budget of over $350MM
- Develop, recommend and implement new operational financial business processes, including internal controls, and financial oversight to improve efficiency
- Act as a strategic business partner to operations teams, offering financial guidance to help optimize resource allocation
- Drive Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, and Innovation initiatives
- Develop sustainable financial models
- Develop and manage annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts
- Exercise sound financial judgement in determining accruals or adjustments for financial period closing
- Ensure compliance with provincial forestry regulations as it relates to financial oversight
- Own the capital management process. Prepare financial reports for senior leadership and support investment decision
- Implement and maintain internal controls. Provide training and oversight
- Collaborate with corporate groups, including financial reporting, tax, and treasury to provide oversight and understanding of corporate entity functions including subsidiaries, dividends, pensions, etc
- Lead and supervise FP&A analysts
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- CPA designation required
- 8+ years of FP&A and/or Controller experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, ideally in natural resources or industrial sectors.
- Strong Excel and financial modeling skills;
experience with our systems (SAP and LIMS) is an asset. - Knowledge of timber/log accounting, government regulations, and forestry operations is a plus.

Compensation : This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $122,125 - $180,090 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement : Nonunion Canadian employees are automatically enrolled in our Defined Contribution Pension Plan, which includes a paid company match up to 6%, in addition to a company contribution equaling up to 7.25% of your base salary. Employees are also eligible to enroll in the Retirement Savings Plan (Group RRSP).
