An opportunity is available for an Automation Engineer to support the day‑day operation of complex automation systems within a GMP‑regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys working close to production, supporting live operations, and driving continuous improvement across automation platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Safety

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all relevant EHS policies, procedures and regulations

System Ownership

  • Act as System Owner for assigned automation systems, ensuring they are maintained in a validated state within a GMP environment

Operations Support

  • Lead and support incident investigations and troubleshooting related to manufacturing automation systems
  • Provide hands‑on support to manufacturing operations to ensure production continuity
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions, including software changes
  • Update automation design documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Review and analyse existing system designs, recommending improvements aligned with current technology and regulatory expectations
  • Support new product introductions and new technologies, including engineering assessments, automation changes and engineering runs

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering or a related discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in an operations or manufacturing environment
  • Background in automation design, installation and programming
  • Experience with validation and automation lifecycle maintenance is highly desirable

Automation Experience (Advantageous)

Experience in one or more of the following areas is beneficial:



  • Clean Utilities generation and distribution (Rockwell or Siemens PLCs)
  • Biopharmaceutical formulation and/or fill/finish (Rockwell or Siemens PLCs)
  • Inspection or packaging systems (Rockwell, B&R or Siemens PLCs)

Technical Skill Set

  • HMIs: Siemens, Rockwell
  • SCADA: iFix, InTouch, Zenon, PCS7, xcfaprz Rockwell FTView, FT Batch
  • Fieldbus: ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, AS-i, BACnet
  • Strong understanding of GAMP lifecycle, ANSI/ISA S88 & S95, 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11
  • Working knowledge of industrial network architectures, including TCP/IP and firewalls

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage and engage with cross‑functional stakeholders

Travel

Travel may be required periodically to support training or vendor activities.
