Overview

Douglas Golf Club is inviting applications for the position of Deputy Course Superintendent. The role reports to the Head Course Superintendent and, on occasion, to the General Manager. The Deputy will work closely with the course staff to maintain the golf course to the highest standards of quality and presentation as part of succession planning.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a dedicated team of greenkeeping staff in day-to-day course maintenance operations.
  • Plan long-term budgets for continuous course improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Course Superintendent to uphold Douglas Golf Club’s reputation for excellence.
  • Adopt a systematic approach to planning and implementing all activities within the area of responsibility.
  • Set clear direction and goals, ensuring the team has necessary information and resources.
  • Delegate work appropriately and track progress toward outcomes.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, reliability, and punctual task completion; promote these values in the team.
  • Consult with colleagues across the organization and share information and expertise openly.
  • Maintain financial awareness, manage budgets effectively, and promote commercial thinking among staff.
  • Utilize technology and data to support decision making and inform strategy.
  • Address conflicts constructively while remaining open to others’ viewpoints.
  • Demonstrate appropriate leadership style, adapt to different people and situations.
  • Lead with integrity, follow through on commitments, and operate fairly and transparently.
  • Manage change to secure buy-in and overcome resistance; support ongoing staff development.
  • Encourage continual self-improvement and skills development within the team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in golf course maintenance with supervisory/leadership responsibility.
  • Relevant greenkeeping qualifications suitable for the position.
  • All applicants should be qualified and certified in chemical application.
  • Chainsaw certificate an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of turf management practices, irrigation systems, and maintenance equipment.
  • Energetic and diligent with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent management and communication skills, including IT proficiency.
