The Team

We’re an IT intensive business, and we operate a state-of-the-art, specialised business-critical systems, 24/7. Central to this is EirGrid Group’s Market Management System (MMS) which supports the Group’s core wholesale electricity market operational function and is supporting the transition to renewable energy. The IT Operations team operates across all two operational sites in Dublin and Belfast and is responsible for the development and support of EirGrid Group’s Core Energy Management System, Market Management System and other related applications. The function is supplemented by a suite of additional real-time supporting systems from wind forecast security assessment tools to complex scheduling applications and real-time unit dispatch.


The critical nature of the work we do, and the experience it offers, provides an exciting opportunity for a SCADA/Power System Application Specialist in the IT Operations team within the Chief Transformation, Technology & Offshore Office.


The Opportunity

In this position you will be part of a SCADA Operations team which supports the maintenance, accuracy and resiliency of the EMS and its underlying databases and network models. You will provide support to subject matter experts, in delivering business-as-usual activity in the modelling, validation and testing of new and upgraded transmission equipment in the EMS.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to strategic delivery programmes
  • Act as point of escalation for major incidents
  • Develop runbooks and operating procedures for embedding of new technologies and ways of working
  • Support the BAU delivery of a rolling programme of work for the modelling, deployment and testing/ pre-commissioning of new plant in the EMS working closely within the SCADA Operations team.
  • Support the SCADA Operations team with release management and testing of EMS databases and Grid Controller displays in the National Control Centre in Ireland, in collaboration with the team in Belfast.
  • Support the broader Integregrated Single Electricity Market requirements for EMS including seamless provision of feeds and the provision of network models.
  • Support decision support tools for National Control Centre.
  • Support effective stakeholder management of both internal and external stakeholders (technical and non-technical) including key external vendors and internal service providers.
  • Liaise on a cross-functional basis to support continuous improvement in information sharing, signal list quality and engineering standards.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery drills and contribute to EirGrid Group’s Business Continuity Management process.
  • Participating in oncall team when requisite knowledge acquired of EirGrid’s IT Systems.

About You

  • Relevant IT or engineering degree with a minimum of 6+ year direct relevant experience.
  • Experience of working in a secure IT environment and working on critical infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator, both in verbal and written communications to business and technical audiences.
  • Experience working with MS Office tools (including Excel skills, MS Project and Visio or equivalent).
