A Statistical Data Analyst at the University of South Florida (USF) conducts statistical research analyses by compiling data, managing databases, analyzing data using specialized software, and presenting results in numerical and graphical formats. The role supports USF's academic, administrative, and compliance missions by providing high-quality, reliable data used in decision-making, accreditation reporting, and state and federal submissions. This position supports and maintains USF's federal enrollment-reporting compliance through the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) by preparing, validating, and correcting student-enrollment data submissions. The Clearinghouse acts as the institution's authorized third-party servicer for transmitting enrollment data to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and loan servicers, ensuring accurate deferment, grace-period, and repayment status determinations for borrowers. Responsibilities
Higher EducationSpecific Data & Reporting Responsibilities (75% - large focus on federal reporting)
Assists with completion of federal higher education reporting requirements, including mandated data submissions related to enrollment, financial aid, graduation rates, retention, staffing, and institutional characteristics Ensures timely monthly transmissions of enrollment extracts, resolves data inconsistencies flagged by Clearinghouse analysts, and performs required corrections through the Clearinghouse's error resolution system to prevent audit findings and Title IV compliance issues. Monitors ongoing compliance by reviewing rejected records, verifying successful processing of NSC submissions, and collaborating with Registrar and Financial Aid units to ensure accuracy of program data fields, enrollment status changes, and student loan eligibility reporting. Contributes to institutional compliance with reporting and disclosure mandates under the Higher Education Act (HEA), ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data transmitted to federal systems and public disclosures. These requirements include institutional submissions tied to Title IV participation and other federal reporting obligations. Assists with SUS Accountability Plans and other State University System of Florida data submissions involving performance-based funding metrics and institutional effectiveness. Collaborates with units such as Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Planning, and Student Success to ensure data consistency across institutional systems used in official reporting and driving data consistency within Strategic Enrollment Management Core Statistical & Analytical Responsibilities (20%)
Conducts quantitative analyses using SAS, SQL, or related analytics tools to support institutional data needs. Summarizes results in graphs, tables, charts, dashboards, and written narratives for project leaders, administration, and department units. Designs ad hoc reports on demographics, institutional performance, and comparative and historical student data. Advises Data Analysts, researchers, and administrators on appropriate statistical and methodological techniques. Designs and maintains large datasets in collaboration with system programmers. Additional Institutional Research Support (5%)
Maintains documentation for data processes, metadata, and reporting methodologies aligned with USF's data governance standards. Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data quality, reporting efficiency, and analytical capabilities. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the research or data analysis responsibilities and a minimum of one year of research experience; or a Master's degree in one of the same fields. Progressively responsible work experience may substitute for the college on a year for year basis. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.
