Cyber Security Engineer
We have an opening for a Cyber Security Engineer to independently and collaboratively perform a wide range of activities associated with supporting the Cyber Security Program on the Governance, Risk, and Compliance Engineering Team. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions Division (ITSD) within the Computing Directorate matrixed to the Cyber Security Program (CSP), in support of the Livermore Information Technology (LivIT) Program. This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. You will: Provide computer science and software development support using industry standard software development practices leveraging modern programming languages such as Python within Linux, UNIX, and/or Windows environments. Develop scripting and automation to provide solutions to common problems and reduce operational overhead. Manage multiple parallel tasks, ensuring deadlines are met, leveraging team member skills. Develop methods, tools, and procedures to improve incident response capabilities or vulnerability management processes and automate various complex tasks. Provide technical guidance to team members in Cybersecurity best practices and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 level: Develop advanced methods, tools and procedures to improve capabilities and automate various complex tasks. Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members in best practices and procedures. Lead initiatives across large networks and programs, while providing advanced knowledge and reporting to senior management. Qualifications: Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. Broad experience developing software in Python or other programming languages. Comprehensive experience planning, designing, and evaluating complex cybersecurity solutions with a focus on information assurance to ensure the protection of sensitive data and the integrity of information systems. Effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of management and staff. Proficient in working in a dynamic, technical team environment with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success. Broad experience approaching difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity, and to change focus when necessary. Proficiency in working effectively with minimal guidance. Broad experience applying effective analytical and problem-solving skills to moderately complex problems. Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level: Significant technical experience with Linux or Windows operating systems, networks, and/or related hardware. Significant knowledge and experience with programming or scripting languages such as C, C#, Python, Java, PowerShell and PHP. Proven advanced ability to provide innovative approaches and apply new technologies to tasks and projects that may not be well defined. Qualifications We Desire: Significant experience with cloud services such as AWS/Azure and experience with programming or scripting languages such as C, C#, Python, Java, PowerShell and PHP. Broad knowledge of Information Technology and development tools including networking, databases, containers, git, CI/CD, logging, PKI, OAuth, and Active Directory. Experience translating business requirements into sound architectural design and implementation. Practical experience using APIs to connect systems and automate workflows. Pay Range: $146,340 - $222,564 Annually $146,340 - $185,544 Annually for the SES.2 level $175,530 - $222,564 Annually for the SES.3 level This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
