Purpose of Role
The DevOps Engineer is a hands-on Azure specialist responsible for designing, building, and operating Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines authored in YAML and Azure infrastructure deployed via Bicep. This role is not a general DevOps position. It is focused on Azure-native services, Azure DevOps, and pipeline-driven infrastructure and application delivery. The role requires practical, production experience building and maintaining Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, supporting Azure environments through infrastructure as code, and ensuring operational visibility through monitoring and alerting.
Principal Accountabilities
Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines written in YAML for application and infrastructure deployments. Develop and maintain pipeline templates, variables, and reusable patterns to enforce consistency and repeatability. Build and maintain Azure infrastructure using Bicep. Deploy and support Azure services, including:
Azure Virtual Networks Azure Web Apps Azure Storage Accounts Azure SQL Database Azure SQL Managed Instance
Automate build, test, and release workflows using pipeline-based approaches. Support environment promotion strategies (dev → test → prod). Execute and support on-premises MS SQL to Azure SQL migrations, prioritizing minimal application downtime. Implement and maintain Azure-native monitoring, logging, and alerting for applications and infrastructure, ensuring actionable alerts, operational visibility, and rapid incident response. Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to deliver repeatable, auditable Azure deployments. Produce and maintain clear technical documentation for pipelines, infrastructure code, and operational processes. Participate in reviews and troubleshooting related to pipeline execution, infrastructure deployments, and runtime issues. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Professional experience as a DevOps Engineer working primarily in Azure. Hands-on experience authoring Azure DevOps YAML pipelines (not classic UI pipelines). Practical experience with:
Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines, variable groups, service connections) YAML pipeline design, reuse, and parameterization Azure Web Apps using slots or a blue-green release strategy
Experience using Bicep for Azure infrastructure deployments. Experience deploying and supporting production Azure environments. Hands-on experience migrating MS SQL databases from on-premises to Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance. Hands-on experience implementing alerts and monitoring for Azure workloads using Azure-native capabilities. Strong documentation discipline for DevOps and infrastructure solutions. Azure certifications (AZ-400, AZ-104, AZ-305) Experience in enterprise or regulated environments. Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and Azure DevOps best practices. Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, developers, and operations teams. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Initiative to improve deployment consistency, reliability, and operational readiness. This role is not a fit for candidates whose experience is primarily:
AWS or GCP with limited Azure depth Terraform-only with minimal Bicep exposure Classic (UI-based) Azure DevOps pipelines without YAML Broad DevOps coverage without hands-on CI/CD and Azure ownership
