About The Role

Crisil is seeking a seasoned data engineer to join the team that develops the PriceMetrix SaaS products.

As an Agile team member, you will lead the technical design and implementation of product enhancements. You will drive innovation, help define the future state architecture, and apprentice other engineers. An industry leader in data analytics, Crisil provides opportunities to develop your leadership and technical skills. We offer a combination of working in our office in downtown Toronto and at home.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design, planning, and implementation of major product enhancements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions
  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving sessions to determine technical design, engineering tasks, and estimate effort
  • Design and optimize solutions to satisfy demanding performance, scalability, and security requirements
  • Contribute to coding standards and conduct code reviews
  • Partner with Infrastructure/IT and Platform Operations teams to improve deployment, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Proactively identify and advocate for improvements to technology and engineering methods
  • Effectively communicate business benefits and implications of technical initiatives to non-technical and more senior colleagues
  • Contribute to professional development of colleagues by coaching and structured training
  • Maintain related documentation


Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in developing complex business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions
  • Advanced SQL coding and applied knowledge of relational database engines: Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Applied knowledge of modern data platforms: Databricks, Fabric, or Snowflake
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture: dimensional modeling, lakehouse/medallion, and advanced ETL/ELT design
  • Expertise in physical design and optimization of infrastructure for databases and data processing: on-premises/IaaS and PaaS in Azure or AWS
  • Experienced in database maintenance, performance monitoring, and debugging
  • Objectively assess potential solutions by balancing business value and technical complexity
  • Keen practitioner of Agile methods, especially Scrum
  • Apply DevOps practices to automate deployment and testing of databases, ETL/ELT processes, and statistical calculations
  • Highly organized and able to balance multiple parallel projects
  • Effectively communicate complex topics to technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Experience as a people manager is desirable



Qualifications

  • Proven success in leading the engineering of large-scale databases and data processes
  • 8+ years of professional data engineering experience
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a similar discipline

Application process

2. An initial ~30-minute screening call with someone from our recruitment team to cover your most relevant experience and basic information.

3. Round 1: 1-hour interview via Teams with hiring manager from the Engineering team.

4. Round 2 Part 1: 75-minute technical interview via Teams with two senior members of the Engineering team.

Round 2 Part 2: 45-minute leadership interview via Teams with Product team leader.

5. Final round: A take-home challenge/case study. This will be delivered in a collaborative 60-minute in-person session with a small, cross-functional group.
