About the Role:

The Corrosion Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and longevity of industrial equipment and infrastructure by implementing effective corrosion control measures. This position involves conducting detailed inspections, monitoring corrosion rates, and applying protective coatings or treatments to prevent material degradation. The technician collaborates closely with engineering and maintenance teams to develop and execute corrosion mitigation strategies that comply with industry standards and safety regulations. Through meticulous data collection and analysis, the Corrosion Technician helps identify potential risks and recommends corrective actions to minimize downtime and costly repairs. Ultimately, this role supports the safe and efficient operation of facilities by preserving asset reliability and extending service life. This position requires being able to travel overnight from holiday to holiday (typically 5-6 weeks at a time).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • AMPP (NACE) CP1 with 2 years field related pipeline corrosion experience OR 5 years field related pipeline corrosion experience
  • Must be able to read and comprehend maps and GPS systems
  • Knowledgeable in field data acquisition / troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members
  • Detail oriented with strong organization and planning skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for insurability
  • Must be able to work outdoors and be able to walk for long distances on uneven terrain

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIP 1 certification
  • Experience using American Innovations technology products (Allegro, PCS, Bullhorn)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct testing including, but not limited to, structure-to-soil potential, soil resistance and current requirement
  • Conduct rectifier maintenance inspections including necessary troubleshooting, adjustments, and repairs
  • Correctly and safely operate test equipment including pipe and/or cable locaters, high input impedance digital multi-meters, clamp-on ammeters, electrical isolation inspection meters, and various hand and power tools
  • Maintain assigned truck, tools, and equipment
  • Prepare and deliver written and electronic administrative reports
  • Deliver weekly verbal reports at technical staff meetings regarding project status
  • Coordinate administrative and technical meetings and tasks between the company and the client
  • Recognize and report business development opportunities to the sales and marketing team and represent the company in client interactions
  • This position includes regular travel as the business requires, sometimes for long periods of time (two-week intervals)

Other Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces, such as trenches, pits, and manholes
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps and ladders regularly
  • Sitting, standing, walking, or driving for long periods of time (1-3 hours)
  • Must be able to see, hear, and respond quickly to dangerous situations
  • Primarily working outdoors, including extreme weather conditions
  • Working around moving machinery, vehicles, and heavy equipment
  • Wearing personal protective gear most of the day (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hard hat, gloves, safety vest, FRCs)

Skills:

The required skill of corrosion control is applied daily through hands-on inspection and maintenance activities that prevent material degradation and ensure asset integrity. Proficiency with inspection tools and techniques enables the technician to accurately assess equipment condition and identify early signs of corrosion. Preferred skills such as certification in corrosion technologies and experience with cathodic protection enhance the technician’s ability to implement advanced mitigation strategies effectively. Data analysis skills support the interpretation of monitoring results, guiding decision-making and continuous improvement of corrosion management programs. Strong communication and teamwork skills facilitate collaboration with engineers and maintenance personnel to maintain safe and reliable operations.

Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location. For this role, we anticipate paying $25.00 or more per hour. This position is typically Monday - Saturday, typically holiday to holiday of overnight travel (5-6 weeks of overnight travel at a time with 1 week off.).
