*Position Overview*
* We are seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Spacecraft Structures Technician – Composite Assembly to join our Mission Enabling Products (MEP) Business Unit, a key organization within the Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division.
* MEP is a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of mission-critical spacecraft structures and satellite subsystems that power and enable satellites across commercial, civil, and national security space programs.
* For more than two decades, our technologies have supported virtually every U.S. satellite platform, delivering advanced solutions such as: Spacecraft structural panels, Satellite bus structures, Precision optical structures, Deployable structural systems and mechanisms, Solar array assemblies & Antenna reflectors.
* As a Spacecraft Structures Technician – Composite Assembly, you will play a vital role in the fabrication, assembly, and testing of spacecraft structural components and assemblies. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, mechanical engineers, quality teams, and production personnel to support the production of high-precision aerospace hardware used in next-generation space missions.

*Key Responsibilities*
*Mechanical Fabrication & Assembly*
* Perform a variety of manufacturing operations related to the fabrication, assembly, and integration of mechanical components and composite structures used in spacecraft assemblies.
* Assemble subassemblies and mechanical components into larger structural systems in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.
* Assist with the development and assembly of prototype units and mechanical subassemblies under operational conditions.
* Fabricate hardware using hand tools and precision measuring instruments, ensuring dimensional accuracy and structural integrity.
* Support assembly operations involving spacecraft panels, structural frames, composite structures, and mechanical mechanisms.
*Composite Material Handling & Bonding*
* Safely handle and manage fragile composite materials used in spacecraft structures.
* Perform surface preparation, adhesive application, and bonding operations between composite structures and metallic fittings.
* Maintain strict control over adhesive usage, traceability, pot life, and out-time requirements in accordance with aerospace manufacturing standards.
* Assist in bonding and integration processes associated with structural composite assemblies.
*Testing, Calibration & Engineering Support*
* Set up and test prototype assemblies and subassemblies under controlled operating conditions.
* Analyze test data and provide input for component improvements or process modifications.
* Assist mechanical engineers with engineering development tasks, including fabrication support, testing activities, and assembly validation.
* Support setup, calibration, and adjustment of manufacturing equipment used in the production process.
*Manufacturing Process Support*
* Perform functions across multiple manufacturing operations, including: Assembly, Testing, Rework, Inspection, Calibration & Process adjustments
* Utilize specialized data collection systems and software to monitor equipment and production performance.
* Assist in developing or improving manufacturing methods and procedures to enhance process efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
*Measurement, Documentation & Quality Assurance*
* Utilize precision measurement tools, including: Calipers, Rulers, Tape measures & Other dimensional verification tools
* Ensure assemblies meet engineering specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements.
* Accurately document production activities, material usage, and manufacturing traceability records.
* Interface with quality assurance teams to support inspection and compliance processes.
*Technical Documentation & Blueprint Interpretation*
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, and shop planning documentation.
* Follow detailed instructions to ensure accurate assembly and manufacturing processes.
* Apply basic shop arithmetic and measurement principles during fabrication and assembly operations.
*Cross-Functional Collaboration*
* Communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
* Report operational data and collaborate with team members to resolve manufacturing challenges.
* Maintain professional collaboration across departments to support production objectives.
*Workplace Organization & Safety*
* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
* Follow all safety protocols, manufacturing procedures, and quality standards required in aerospace manufacturing environments.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
*Minimum Experience Required*
* 2+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, satellite, composites, mechanical assembly, or electromechanical production environment.
*Equivalent Experience May Include:*
* Technical diploma or Associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Aerospace Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Industrial Technology, combined with relevant hands-on manufacturing experience.
* Military technical experience (e.g., aircraft maintenance, mechanical systems technician, avionics maintenance technician, or aerospace maintenance specialist).
* Hands-on experience in aerospace, defense, satellite manufacturing, precision mechanical assembly, or composite structures fabrication environments.

* Installation and fastening of mechanical hardware using appropriate torque specifications
* Performing prototype build activities and subassembly fabrication
* Supporting production build cycles from prototype to full-rate production
*Engineering Drawings & Technical Documentation*
Candidates must possess the ability to accurately interpret and work from technical documentation.
*Required knowledge includes:*
* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and mechanical schematics
* Understanding dimensioning, tolerances, and assembly instructions
* Following manufacturing process instructions and shop travelers
* Executing work according to engineering specifications and quality standards

*Composite Materials Handling & Bonding Processes*
Because this role supports satellite and spacecraft structures, experience with advanced composite materials is highly valuable.
*Preferred technical competencies include:*
* Handling fragile composite materials used in aerospace structures
* Preparing surfaces for composite bonding
* Bonding composite structures to metallic fittings or structural interfaces
* Performing adhesive mixing, application, and curing procedures
* Maintaining compliance with adhesive usage tracking requirements
*Precision Measurement & Inspection*
*Candidates must demonstrate proficiency using precision measurement tools for fabrication and assembly verification.*
* Required tools include: Digital and manual calipers, Precision rulers and measuring scales, Tape measures & Basic inspection gauges
* Candidates must be able to: Verify dimensional accuracy of fabricated parts, Ensure assemblies meet engineering tolerances & Perform basic in-process quality checks
*Manufacturing Testing & Equipment Operation*
The role requires exposure to testing of assemblies and components.
*Preferred experience includes:*
* Setup and testing of prototype units or mechanical assemblies
* Operating electronic test equipment, such as: Digital Multimeters, DC Power Supplies, Source Meters etc.
* Collecting and analyzing operational performance data
* Assisting engineers with test setup and troubleshooting
