Your Mission:

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and analyzing complex steel structures that support submarine builds. Your expertise will guide our projects to success!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design & Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards for complex steel structures, employing FEA and classical calculation methods.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Apply your knowledge of regulations beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, and Weld Specifications.
  • Data Interpretation: Use computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis and CAD modeling (Abaqus, S-Frame).
  • Support Manufacturing: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of Submarine Structures.
  • Technical Outputs: Produce concept drawings and layouts that meet contractual requirements, deadlines, and budget constraints.
  • Quality Assurance: Check and approve calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Your Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • BEng/MEng in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or nearing CEng status.
  • Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
  • Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering and knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with ABAQUS, S-Frame, NX, MathCAD, and Excel.
  • Experience in a production or marine production environment.

About the Production Engineering Department:

As part of a dynamic team of designers and engineers, you will conduct engineering assessments that support our submarine build process. Collaborate closely with the design team to develop equipment and provide operational support for safety-critical systems. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates across all Submarine roles.
