Job Advert: Manufacturing Automation Engineer Location: London (with occasional UK and international travel) Role Type: Full-time Salary: Up to £60k plus benefits Working Model: Hybrid / On-site project visits as required About the Role We are seeking a highly capable Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join a growing Digital Solutions team focused on enabling manufacturing innovation, operational excellence, and Industry 4.0 transformation. In this hands‑on, consulting‑focused role, you will collaborate with manufacturing sites and operational teams to identify automation opportunities, design and deliver pilots, and help establish scalable patterns across MES, SCADA, IIoT, robotics, and data‑driven manufacturing. You will work on a wide range of digital and automation initiatives-from lightweight proofs of concept to cross‑site assessments-helping operational teams understand new technologies and adopt modern manufacturing practices. Key Responsibilities Lead small consulting engagements to frame problems, define scope, and deliver automation pilots. Conduct site diagnostics and identify automation and Industry 4.0 opportunities, translating findings into actionable recommendations. Design and implement proofs of concept to validate technology choices and demonstrate early value. Develop reference architectures and reusable patterns across MES, SCADA, IIoT, edge/AI, and related technologies. Produce clear handover documentation to enable operational teams to own and scale solutions. Work closely with integrators and technology partners as an informed client while retaining ownership of problem definition and technical decision‑making. Mentor junior analysts and engineers, supporting them through coaching and shared on‑site delivery. Ensure solutions align with OT/IT, cyber, and safety standards and follow best practices. Contribute to shared playbooks, standards, and pattern libraries to support consistent manufacturing innovation across teams. Required Experience 3-6 years of experience in manufacturing, automation, or Industry 4.0 environments Exposure to MES, SCADA, PLCs, IIoT, or industrial data systems Experience working within factory or operational settings Ability to translate operational issues into viable technical solutions Comfortable engaging with multiple sites, teams, and stakeholders Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences Willingness to travel based on project needsDesirable Experience Practical exposure to AI or robotics within manufacturing environmentsProfessional Attributes Passion for learning and applying emerging technologies to solve real-world problems Strong interpersonal and consulting skills Coaching mentality with an interest in developing others Creative, resourceful, and pragmatic problem‑solver Ability to navigate complex organisations and socialise new ideas Strong written and verbal communication skills Curiosity for evolving technology landscapes and how they can support operational goalsLocation This role is based in London, with project‑dependent travel to UK and international manufacturing sites.
