Responsiblities
Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Control System Engineer to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to design and develop control systems to support scientific experiments in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Control System Engineer to collaborate in design, development, fielding and maintenance of industrial control systems and embedded systems that support physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This Control System Engineer will report primarily to the PULSE complex at the NNSS in support of experiment related control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with other engineers and technical staff at the Nevada National Security Site to design and implement industrial control systems and related instrumentation that support dynamic physic experiments.
Design and implement PLC based control systems.
Develop and maintain PLC software, HMI screens, and SCADA infrastructure.
Assist with networking of control system components and systems.
Assist in debugging and commissioning of completed systems in lab and field settings.
Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and improvements.
Assist in the development of system design drawings, documentation, reports and technical procedures.
Work closely with technical staff to ensure instrumentation and processes are implemented and fully tested.
Work under general supervision with limited guidance from more experienced team members.
Assist on several simultaneous projects.
Follows established engineering and technical procedures and instructions.
Define specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
May travel to customer sites for program reviews, discussions and field demonstrations of systems.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
Or Professional Engineer license
Plus at least 2 years' relevant experience.
Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
Experience with PLC-based control systems.
PLC programming experience (any major platform).
Experience or willingness to learn Ignition SCADA.
Previous education or training with programming languages. PLC ideal, but other object-oriented programming experience is acceptable.
Experience adhering to software development processes and configuration management.
CAD or Design experience (AutoCAD, Solidworks, EPLAN, etc.).
Familiarity with industrial networking.
Database development experience desired.
Good technical writing and communication skills, and familiarity with PCs and PC application software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical documents.
Comfortable working both in office and field environments.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Should be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Ideally, the applicant will have strong time-management skills, be well organized, maintain safe work habits, and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
Demonstrated desire to learn and innovate.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, procedures and company policies.
The Primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas (NLV), Nevada, with travel to NNSS and other locations as deemed necessary.
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday-Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance
(position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707_14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $83,075.20 - $124,612.80.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
