Our Des Moines, Iowa distribution center is seeking a meticulous Inventory Control Specialist to oversee and maintain the accuracy of our warehouse inventory. This critical role ensures that our stock levels are precise, minimizing discrepancies and optimizing our logistics operations. The Inventory Control Specialist will be responsible for conducting cycle counts, investigating variances, implementing inventory control procedures, and utilizing warehouse management systems (WMS) to ensure data integrity. A strong analytical mindset and a commitment to accuracy are essential. This position plays a key role in preventing stockouts and overstock situations, directly impacting operational efficiency and profitability.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventories of warehouse stock.
- Investigate and reconcile inventory discrepancies, identifying root causes.
- Implement and enforce inventory control procedures and policies.
- Manage inventory adjustments in the WMS, ensuring accuracy.
- Monitor inventory levels and report on stock status, obsolescence, and potential issues.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff, procurement, and other departments to resolve inventory problems.
- Analyze inventory data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of inventory to minimize damage and loss.
- Assist in the training of warehouse personnel on inventory control procedures.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including the proper use of PPE, and promote a culture of safety within the logistics environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Proven experience in inventory control or warehouse management.
- Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform basic math and data analysis.
- Experience with conducting cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with logistics and supply chain principles.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
