*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

1. Manages the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy.
2. Manages staff members in the pharmacy department.
3. Ensures adherence to state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy.
4. Assures pharmacy and pharmacy staff are in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
5. Provides leadership to the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive and quality service
6. Assists in the establishment of policies and procedures for efficient operation of the pharmacy department
7. Assists in the development of clinical policies, standing orders, and procedures with chief medical officer
8. Researches, develops, and implements new pharmacy services (i.e., 340B Drug program; contract pharmacy programs; seeks out new, innovative pharmacy programs, etc.) as necessary
9. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships; by attending meetings, lectures, in-services, and seminars; by reading journals; and by complying with Louisiana Board of Continuing Education
10. Advances patient care services through the promotion of pharmacy best practices by the creation and adoption of emerging technologies and innovative services
11. Develops and makes recommendations for improvements to business processes, policies, and infrastructure to improve operational efficiency
12. Implements cost-effective strategies and makes financially intelligent decisions.
13. Reviews and interprets physicians’ orders for appropriateness relevant to other departments (e.g., drugs for diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests) to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications
14. Provides drug information such as dosing, compatibilities and appropriate substitutes to nursing, physicians, and other health care practitioners
15. Performs various clerical, billing, and technical duties necessary to support the operation of the pharmacy
16. Manages the ordering of pharmaceuticals and maintains inventory at the lowest possible cost consistent with usage and quality needs
17. Provides counseling services to patients regarding their medication use
18. In addition to the outlined duties above, as a patient-centered medical home, the incumbent fulfills the principles and theories outlined in organizational policies including assisting navigating patients as needed through the health system, making appropriate referrals to case/care management, communicating with the healthcare team to address patient/family/caregiver specific needs, etc.
19. Completes required CHS training per policy, maintains compliance with and knowledge of all CHS departmental, facility specific and system-wide policy and procedure, attends mandatory departmental meetings and/or training, and follows CHS Mission, Vision and Values in delivery of all services
20. Participates in all appropriate meetings within the organization.
21. Maintains a working knowledge of all health information management issues such as HIPAA, Corporate Compliance, and other such healthcare regulations as well as compliance with HRSA regulations
22. This position may require work beyond normal working hours.
23. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
*Education:*
1. Graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD (required)
2. State of Louisiana Pharmacy License (required)
3. CPR certification (required)
*Skills/Experience:*
1. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
2. At least two years of experience as a pharmacist.
3. Knowledge of drug therapy and disease state management.
4. Knowledge of state and federal regulation related to pharmacy services.
5. Knowledge of retail pharmacy operations.
6. Knowledge of 340B program (preferred).
7. Knowledge of clinical evidence-based medicine guidelines for chronic disease state management.
8. Must be able to manage pharmacy staff effectively.
9. Must be able to lead, motivate, and hold pharmacy team accountable.
10. Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
11. Strong problem-solving skills.
12. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for the department.
13. Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
14. Must possess the ability to adapt to changing patient and departmental needs.
15. Must be able to use Microsoft, EHR software, and all pharmacy software proficiently.
*Environmental/Working Conditions:*
1. Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office area of the facility.
2. Is subject to frequent interruptions.
3. Is involved with personnel, patients, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
4. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset personnel, patients, visitors, etc.
5. Is willing to work beyond normal working hours: weekends, holidays, and other shifts/positions as necessary.
6. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.
7. Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.
8. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
*Physical Demands:*
1. Must be able to handle occasional lifting and pulling.
2. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
3. Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
4. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
