We are looking for a skilled Material Handler to join our team in Washington, D.C. This position is fundamental to our warehouse operations, ensuring the smooth and safe movement of materials throughout our facility. Your responsibilities will include operating forklifts and other heavy equipment to load, unload, and relocate inventory and supplies. You will also be involved in organizing materials, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring the workplace is kept tidy and safe. A strong understanding of logistics and supply chain principles is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience with various types of material handling equipment and a proven commitment to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This role demands physical stamina, as it involves significant lifting and repetitive tasks. You will work closely with other warehouse staff and management to ensure efficient operations and timely delivery of goods. Continuous improvement and adherence to best practices in material handling are key to success. This is a critical role within our logistics network, offering stability and the chance to contribute to a vital industry.
Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload trucks and containers with incoming and outgoing materials.
- Transport materials to and from storage areas, production lines, or loading docks.
- Organize and stack materials in designated warehouse locations.
- Assist with inventory management, including cycle counts and record keeping.
- Ensure all materials are handled in accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, free from hazards.
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times, including safety shoes, gloves, and eye protection.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately.
- Support overall logistics and warehouse operations as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid forklift operator certification and proven experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Material Handler or in a similar logistics role.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including frequent lifting of up to 75 lbs.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Proficiency in operating various types of material handling equipment.
- Commitment to wearing required PPE and following all safety guidelines.
