*Job Summary:*
Matthes Parker is a HUBZone-certified and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in commercial construction projects ranging from $100K to $20M. We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Project Estimator to join our preconstruction team. This role plays a critical part in preparing accurate cost estimates, managing subcontractor relationships, and ensuring the successful pursuit of competitive bids.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Review and interpret specifications and project plans for commercial construction projects.
* Perform detailed and accurate takeoffs across all trades, with emphasis on architectural, structural, and civil scopes.
* Develop comprehensive estimates for projects ranging from $100K to $20M.
* Prepare and maintain pre-bid packages, bid schedules, proposals, and estimate files.
* Solicit subcontractor/vendor pricing, evaluate scopes of work, and level bids for completeness and accuracy.
* Identify risks, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities to optimize costs.
* Attend pre-bid meetings, meet with subcontractors, and clarify scope of work.
* Issue RFIs for scope clarifications and incorporate project changes issued through addendums.
* Collaborate with project team during bid handoff for seamless transition.
* Track historical cost data and update estimating databases.
* Maintain strong subcontractor/vendor relationships and expand bid network.
* Stay current with construction methods, industry pricing, and market conditions.
*Required Qualifications:*
* Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Building Science, or related field; or equivalent experience
* Minimum 3–5 years of commercial construction estimating experience.
* Experience in competitive bidding commercial projects.
* Proficiency with takeoff software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.).
* Strong Excel skills (multi-tabbed spreadsheets, conditional formatting, looped formulas, etc.).
* Strong mathematical, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
*Preferred Qualifications:*
* Solid understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing.
* Excellent communication skills with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
*Compensation & Benefits:*
* Salary range: *$65,000 – $80,000*, based on experience and qualifications.
* Benefits package: PTO and paid holidays, Simple IRA with company match, health insurance.
*Work Environment:*
* Office-based only (no remote work).
* Standard hours, Monday - Friday.
* Occasional local travel for pre-bid meetings or site visits.
