About this Role

The Foreman oversees day-to-day site operations and crews to deliver quality, safe, and productive construction work in alignment with Taggart Construction Limited's vision, policies, and procedures. Working closely with the Superintendent, the Foreman identifies issues, implements solutions, and ensures clear communication, documentation, and compliance across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize daily/weekly work so each crew member understands their role and targets.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance follow-up.
  • Assess skills, identify training needs, and support delivery of training.
  • Maintain effective onsite communication and progress reporting to the Superintendent.
  • Model and enforce safe work practices and Taggart policies at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with Taggart's Safety Program and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Participate in incident/accident investigations and complete required safety reporting.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and accountability within the crew.
  • Adhere to Taggart's Labour Relations policies and applicable collective agreements.
  • Recognize, report, and address crew issues early to maintain morale and productivity.
  • Set and uphold clear work standards and behavioral expectations.
  • Maintain foreman's diary, complete accurate timesheets, and report deficiencies.
  • Submit required documentation to Head Office on time.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by management.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary certificate/diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or relevant technical training (preferred).
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience as a construction foreman.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications; basic line-and-grade surveying knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Basic computer/administrative skills.
  • Health & Safety training; leadership/management development an asset.
  • Detail-oriented; able to perform under busy and stressful site conditions; professional and tactful with all stakeholders.

Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment

  • Physical/Sensory: Loud, fast-paced worksites; multiple concurrent deadlines; frequent interaction with management, colleagues, visitors, and government personnel.
  • Work Environment: Outdoor/on-site work in varying weather; travel between sites required; overtime as needed.
