The Role:
Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting financial reporting, analysis, and business performance across the organization. This role partners closely with Operations and other departments to provide insights on store results, labour performance, and key financial metrics. You'll help translate data into actionable recommendations while supporting budgeting, period-end processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Location: This is a hybrid role based at MEC's HO in Vancouver, a minimum 2 days a week in-office.
As an Financial Analyst, you'll be:

  • Monthly review, analysis and distribution of individual store income statements
  • Partnering with Operations on labour scheduling, including ongoing labour analysis
  • Assist with period-end corporate reporting for the executive team
  • Weekly executive reporting, including updating key reports and KPIs
  • Play a key role in the preparation of the annual budget, supporting key departments
  • Suggest and prepare accounting adjustments as required based on results of analysis
  • Prepare recurring period-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Suggest process improvements or potential opportunities for efficiency
  • Assist with information requests related to external audits and consulting engagements
  • Other ad hoc analysis and accounting duties as required
  • What you bring:

  • 2+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with an interest in analysis, and 
  • understanding the story behind the numbers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience working with Microsoft Excel is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in full cycle accounting, reconciliations, period-end and year-end processes
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or a CPA designation, is an asset
  • Experience with financial reporting and accounting standards is an asset
  • Previous retail experience is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft D365 is an asset

    The anticipated annual base salary range of this role is $60,000 to $75,900 + bonus. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate's relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
