The successful candidate will complete assigned carpentry and renovation tasks after receiving instruction, under the overall supervision of a journeyman carpenter or superintendent who provides direction and remains available for guidance. Formal apprenticeship registration may be supported for eligible candidates based on performance and company approval.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist journeyman carpenters and site supervisors with residential renovation projects.
- Perform selective demolition, framing, drywall repairs, mudding, taping, sanding, and finishing carpentry tasks as assigned.
- Install doors, baseboards, casings, cabinetry components, and related interior finishes.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and related materials according to drawings and site instructions.
- Protect finished materials and maintain dust control in occupied homes.
- Transport tools and construction materials to job sites as required.
- Use hand and power tools safely and in accordance with company safety procedures.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
- Follow construction drawings and site instructions.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners and other trades when required.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Participate in structured on-the-job training under supervision.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on residential renovation carpentry experience.
- Experience working in occupied residential environments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and measurements.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks independently after instruction.
- Physical capability to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive manual labour
- Comfortable kneeling, climbing, performing overhead work, and working in dusty environments.
- Reliable personal transportation capable of safely transporting tools and construction materials (including lumber and sheet goods) between job sites within approximately 110 km of Edmonton.
- Valid driver's license.
- Full-time availability including extended workdays and regular weekend work.
- Strong verbal communication skills suitable for client-facing environments.
- Comfortable using a personal smartphone for work communication.
- Willingness to use company digital systems for scheduling, clock-in/clock-out with location services, and job coordination.
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Current CSTS certification.
- Willingness to complete required safety training, including asbestos awareness.
- Compliance with company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Must be eligible to work in residential environments that may require background screening in accordance with project or client requirements.
- Must supply own basic hand tools suitable for apprentice-level carpentry.
- Power tools and required PPE provided by employer.
- Overtime is managed in accordance with Alberta Employment Standards, including a formal overtime banking agreement where applicable.
- Mileage reimbursement provided in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations.
