About The Position
We are looking to fill an existing vacancy for a Business Development Specialist to join the Marketing and Business Development team in either our Montréal or Toronto office. Reporting to the Chief Client Officer, the successful applicant will support the Business Development Specialist is a key contributor within the firm's Business Development team. The role focuses on supporting BD managers in drafting high‑quality proposals, pitches and RFP responses; legal directory and league table submissions; and strategic business development initiatives that strengthen client relationships and drive growth. Working closely with lawyers and BD colleagues, the Specialist will maintain accurate experience records, develop compelling credentials materials and provide research and reporting that inform go‑to‑market efforts. This position demands meticulous project management, strong writing and editing capabilities and the ability to balance multiple deadlines while upholding the firm's brand and quality standards.
The successful candidate brings a client‑centred mindset, is skilled at translating complex legal experience into clear and compelling narratives and operates with accountability under tight timelines. They are able to collaborate effectively across teams, uphold rigorous quality standards and use data, research and feedback to continuously improve BD content and outcome.
Responsibilities
Proposals, Pitches, and RFPs
Support coordination of proposals, pitches and RFP responses from intake and planning through drafting, review, production and tracking
Partner with BD managers and lawyers to tailor credentials, matter experience and value propositions to client needs and evaluation criteria
Develop clear, persuasive content and ensure consistent use of brand, messaging, pricing inputs and disclaimers
Update library of proposal assets, including practice descriptions, lawyer bios, experience lists, case studies and presentation materials
Track outcomes and feedback to continuously improve content and process
Rankings, Directories and League Tables
Support directory submissions for key legal directories and rankings, including Chambers, The Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation and various industry awards
Collaborate with team and partners to identify matter highlights and referee strategies, ensuring accurate, timely and strategic submissions
Experience Management, CRM and Data Integrity
Maintain accurate matter and deal information for marketing and business development purposes, ensuring it is searchable and presentation‑ready
Use the firm's CRM and experience systems to identify targets and map relationships; assemble relevant credentials for pitches and submissions
Uphold data hygiene standards and support reporting on pipeline, proposal activity, win/loss trends and directory outcomes
Research and Other BD Support
Conduct research, analysis, and reporting on current and prospective clients, industries, competitors, etc.
Support practice groups and lawyers in their business development and marketing efforts, including individual BD plans
Operational Excellence and Collaboration
Manage multiple concurrent deadlines with precision, ensuring quality control, confidentiality and adherence to brand, editorial and accessibility guidelines
Coordinate inputs across lawyers, finance, pricing, knowledge management, research and design to deliver complete, compliant submissions and materials
Recommend process improvements
Qualifications
Post‑secondary education in business, marketing, communications or a related field
At least three years of business development or marketing experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment
Demonstrated track record coordinating proposals, pitches and RFPs, with strong writing, editing and content development skills
Experience managing legal directory submissions (for example, Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500) and compiling matter experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiarity with CRM and experience management platforms; working knowledge of research tools and databases is an asset
Exceptional project management, attention to detail, and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a deadline‑driven setting
Strong written and verbal communication skills in French and English
*Our Montréal office represents and delivers service in Québec both to Québec-based clients and to clients that do business in Québec. The incumbent will be required to interact and produce content in both French and English, hence verbal and written proficiency in both languages is required.
Salary range
The expected starting salary range for this role is $75,000–$80,000. The final offer will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
