À propos

Overview

Dillon is continuing to strengthen its presence and capabilities in Northern Canada. As our work and client relationships across the North grow, we are looking to add an Intermediate to Senior Engineer in our Yellowknife office to play a hands-on role in delivering projects, building trusted client relationships, and supporting the continued development of our engineering services in the region.

This role is well-suited to an engineer who enjoys variety, responsibility, and visibility — someone who is comfortable moving between technical delivery, client conversations, and project coordination, and who is motivated by seeing their work make a tangible difference in Northern communities.

While a civil/municipal background is preferred, success in this role is less about narrow specialization and more about initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to take ownership within a regional practice.

Your opportunity

Based in Yellowknife, you will be part of a close-knit team working directly with clients and communities across the Northwest Territories, while also supporting projects in Nunavut and Yukon as part of Dillon's broader Northern practice.

You'll be involved in projects from early discussions and planning through design and construction support, with the opportunity to build long-term relationships with territorial, municipal, federal, and Indigenous clients. This is not a back-office role — you'll be close to the work, the clients, and the decisions, with the ability to see projects move from concept to reality.

You will also work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Dillon's offices nationwide, coordinating the right expertise for each project while maintaining a strong local presence. For the right person, this role offers the chance to develop broad exposure, regional credibility, and a well-rounded Northern career.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Delivery & Coordination (Approx. 60%)
  • Lead and coordinate engineering scopes related to community and municipal infrastructure, including water/wastewater, roads, site servicing, drainage, and related works
  • Act as a project manager or technical lead, depending on project needs
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, drawing on technical specialists from Dillon offices across Canada as required
  • Work directly with clients, regulators, utilities, and other stakeholders
  • Support construction administration and field activities, including travel to Northern communities
  • Apply territorial standards and regulatory requirements in project delivery

This role offers a mix of office-based work and time in the field, with projects that vary in scale, setting, and complexity — no two weeks look exactly the same.

Client Development & Practice Growth (Approx. 30%)
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and project partners
  • Take part in early-stage discussions and help shape opportunities as they emerge
  • Contribute to proposals, statements of qualifications, and pursuit planning
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, and regional engagement activities
  • Act as a visible, responsive Dillon representative in the Northern market

Rather than focusing only on formal proposals, this aspect of the role is about building trust, staying connected, and following opportunities through — from first conversation to delivery.

Leadership & Development (Approx. 10%)
  • Support and mentor junior and intermediate staff working on Northern projects
  • Contribute to a collaborative, adaptable team environment
  • Commit to ongoing learning and professional development

Participate in professional associations or regional forums, where appropriate

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (municipal focus preferred)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for licensure
  • Typically 7+ years of experience in consulting or related roles (intermediate to senior level)
  • Experience delivering or coordinating municipal or community infrastructure projects
  • Comfort working across disciplines and coordinating work beyond your own technical specialty
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
  • Interest in client relationships, project coordination, and practice development
  • Willingness to be locally present in Yellowknife and to travel within the North as required

Assets (not required):

  • Northern or remote project experience
  • Experience in water/wastewater, roads, servicing, or community infrastructure
  • Exposure to regulatory processes or construction administration

Previous involvement in proposal development or client pursuits

Experience
  • Experienced in the design of various municipal infrastructure including water supply systems, sewage systems, roadways, storm water management works, underground and surface site servicing works, and/or waste management facilities
  • Experience in the design of linear water and sewer and treatment infrastructure in northern Canadian communities would be an asset.
  • In depth knowledge of contract administration services and requirements, including Master Municipal Construction Documents
  • Familiarity with municipal servicing standards and environmental approvals requirements
  • Demonstrated skills in public and agency consultation
  • Strong proficiency in proposal and report writing, presentations, communications, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential
  • Demonstrated experience related to business development and client retention.
