The Junior Maintenance Mechanic supports the maintenance team in performing routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs on production and facility equipment. This role is intended for recent graduates of a mechanical, industrial, or maintenance-related program and provides structured on‑the‑job training under the guidance of experienced mechanics.
Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
Perform monthly preventative maintenance activities as directed by the supervisor, including:
Conduct site inspections (interior and exterior) and document findings
Assist in responding to emergency mechanical trouble calls under the direction of senior staff
Support mechanical maintenance duties, including but not limited to:
Minor repairs
Belt changes
Filter replacements
Support additional work requests, including small projects and improvement tasks
Assist with minor facility repairs such as:
Replacing flush valves and faucets
Clearing toilets and drains
Replacing lamps
Resetting breakers (as trained and permitted)
Utilize the CMMS to document work performed on building assets and services provided to tenants
Assist with ordering, receiving, and maintaining maintenance supply inventory
Support and observe repair and maintenance tasks performed by sub-trades and report progress or issues to the supervisor
Perform various light cleaning tasks related to maintenance activities (e.g., work areas and mechanical rooms), as agreed upon and as time permits
Assist in inspecting, operating, and performing minor repairs on mechanical and building systems, including:
HVAC equipment
Pumps
Generators
Life safety systems
Ensure all equipment is operated in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with applicable safety procedures, government codes, and regulations
Perform other related duties as assigned and appropriate to the role
Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring to develop mechanical and facilities maintenance skills
Recent graduate of a mechanical, industrial maintenance, millwright, or related technical program
Basic understanding of mechanical systems (gears, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics)
Willingness to learn and take direction
Good communication skills and a positive attitude
Ability to work safely in an industrial environment
Co‑op, internship, or hands‑on shop experience
Basic welding, fabrication, or electrical exposure is considered an asset
Familiarity with hand and power tools
Understanding of preventative maintenance concepts
Knowledge and understanding of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical systems and BAS
Building Environment System certificate or a trade license (BES 1 and/or 2) is considered an asset
(all under supervision)

Skills, Abilities, And Other Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required with ability to follow instructions both written and verbal
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
Comfortable working around moving machinery, heights, and confined spaces (with training)
Always maintain a professional demeanour with fellow employees and customer
Maintain clear and courteous phone etiquette
A team player, committed to working in a quality environment
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Security clearance requirements (specify type of security clearance requirement)
Maintain a valid G license with a clean driver's abstract
Must be able to work in confined spaces and/or working at heights (with training)
Bending and lifting (under 30kg) required
Must obtain and maintain necessary security clearance
Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $21-24/hour dependent on education level, skills and experience
