Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Responsible for the hardware electrical design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet requirements. Involves designs of moderate to high complexity.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design new or revised products, equipment, and installations utilizing established engineering principles to meet customer and Railway requirements.

  • Contribute to a harmonious team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

  • Mentor and assist junior team members within the department as required.

  • Follow directions and work instructions, applying good judgment in assigned work.

  • Effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action.

  • Track progress on assigned tasks, ensuring all work is completed accurately.

  • Ensure the quality and integrity of hardware designs and all related documentation.

  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure changes align with objectives.

  • Provide accurate, supportable estimates for departmental technologies and new developments.

  • Support bids by defining technical solutions and reviewing materials lists.

  • Interpret, identify, and document requirements to meet customer needs within budget and schedule constraints.

  • Ensure both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing deployment costs. Contribute to improvements in hardware quality and heightened reuse of product hardware.

  • Prepare specifications for hardware and/or software components or devices.

  • Develop appropriate design architectures.

  • Review applicable specifications, standards, and rules, ensuring actions are taken as needed.

  • Implement designs using good design practices and applicable standards and guidelines.

Key Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in the industry, including:

    • Cabling

    • Grounding techniques

    • Surge protection

  • Strong grasp of Electrical Engineering Principles, including:

    • Power circuits design

    • Electronic circuits with microprocessors

    • Telecommunications circuits

  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as:

    • CAD systems (e.g., AutoCAD)

    • Multi-meters

    • Oscilloscope

    • Protocol analyzers

  • Well-developed verbal and writing skills for clear and concise communication.

  • Proven track record in designing complex electrical or electronic products.

  • Proficiency in skills and up-to-date with technology in the discipline.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry.

  • Proven expertise in designing, installing, and testing communication-based train control on-board equipment.

  • Experience in formulating or contributing to new designs, testing functionality, and solving problems.

  • Excellent understanding of train interfaces, operations, and maintenance practices.

  • Familiarity with various train designs, sub-systems, and components from different manufacturers.

  • Ability to understand, read, and design train interface electrical schematics.

  • Deep understanding of CENELEC and AREMA railway standards for on-board equipment.

  • Experience performing train surveys.

  • Certification: PEO.

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Total Compensation Range (Base Salary + Annual Incentive plan) : $149,028 - $190,535
