Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)The incumbent Manager will manage and coordinate all activities associated with a work package, within a technical context linked with software activities. He/she supervises and directs the duties of staff members assigned to them, including the coordination of activities/time and delegation of workload. He/she also ensures that work performed by him/her and his/her assigned staff meets overall product/project requirements, consistent with the standards of Hitachi Rail signaling solutions.
Key Accountabilities:
Plans, coordinates, and monitors the performance of the work, identifies and manages risks during the full Work Package lifecycle until closure.
Ensures compliance with commitments relating to his/her Work Package (costs, deadlines, quality) in accordance with project plans and objectives.
Manages and coordinates internal teams performing a work package.
Liaises with the Solution Engineering Manager for all aspects relating to his/her work package.
Conducts all work package activities (including those relating to risks and opportunities) to reach completion of the project.
Defines the software development lifecycle and tailors the Software Engineering Environment.
Writes the Software Development Plan.
Ensures that the software structure is defined and maintained for the entire lifecycle of the project/product.
Ensures that the software team adheres to in-scope standards, software reuse policy, and software development plans.
Provides leadership and motivation to staff. Acts as a mentor to assigned staff.
Provides input to manage and evaluate employees' performance.
Prepares and implements low-level plans, schedules, and budgets and reports status.
Assists the Manager of Software Engineering with staffing plans and adherence to capital and expense budgets.
Works in conjunction with the Manager of Software Engineering to ensure all recommendations (such as training, tools, etc.) adhere to an overall departmental budget.
Contributes to specifications, designs code, debugs, writes test procedures, and tests software code; chairs design reviews.
Contributes to reviewing code, test procedures, and test results.
Analyzes and implements corrections for defect reports.
Provides cost estimates for software during the bid process.
Prepares Work Package Agreements and manages/maintains Work Packages.
Provides risks and values associated with the risks during the
software bidding process.
Key Requirements:
University degree in computer sciences, engineering, or a closely related field.
Minimum 8 years of relevant working experience.
Strong understanding of work package management concepts and risk management.
Experience handling small software development teams.
Deep understanding of project management principles (ideally achieved through managing projects for multiple years or through a PMP or equivalent designation).
Practical experience creating and executing complex test plans and procedures.
Ability to manage projects within budget/schedule in a challenging environment.
Software development experience in programming languages used in areas of control such as C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, etc.
Practical experience using common Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Practical experience using scheduling and budgeting applications such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, etc.
Practical experience using source control, IDE, and requirements management tools (e.g., Eclipse, Jira, Git, ClearCase, ClearQuest, DOORS, etc.).
Knowledgeable of SelTrac CBTC signaling systems.
Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods, and tools (including but not limited to international Railway standards).
Fluent English language skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are optional but valued.

Salary Range: $130,500 - $165,500
