OverviewThe Junior Estimator is responsible for handling small EPC estimates under the supervision and guidance of the Estimating Manager. This employee has the capability to learn discipline estimates for the generation and presentation of project estimates from basic take-offs through final cost for all work required on a project.
This employee routinely interacts with others in Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Fabrication to develop an EPC estimate and is responsible for presenting the basis of estimate to the Management team.
Responsibilities- Develop takeoffs from drawings or sketches provided by the Customer and engineering and input quantities provided by engineering into estimating programs.
- Generate a complete project estimate (all materials, fabrication, subcontracts, construction, localization,and indirects) and take responsibility for the complete cost estimate.
- Be responsible for effectively leading the estimating effort by communicating work status and project information to the project team including members of engineering, operations, sales, subcontracts, and other departments.
- Analyzes scope documents, including specifications, drawings, bills of material, historical data, and calculates project costs using labor and material pricing schedules
- Prepares the estimate by the work breakdown structure and chart of accounts
- Conducts precontract kickoff meetings with project managers and business line management to plan bid strategy and ascertain methods of performance based on the scope of work
- Assists in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors
- Obtains review and input from Legal, Tax, Insurance, Finance, and other corporate support groups
- Collaborates with other functions during estimate creation to ensure overall accuracy
- Presents estimates to the team and management in a timely and professional manner including developing estimate basis document and comparable metrics
- BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills
Understanding of construction processes
Strong attention to accuracy and detail
Experience with VBA programming is valued
- Business presence and polish
- Knowledge of CB&I products and markets
- Basic understanding of construction projects
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
