Job Summary TYLin's Buildings team brings creativity and technical excellence to new and existing buildings around the world. Our primary services, structural engineering for buildings, include new construction projects, as well as renovation, adaptive reuse, and historic preservation. Within that broad range, we offer further expertise in specific services including architectural services, code consulting, façade engineering, lightweight structures, and construction support services.Responsibilities & QualificationsResponsibilities
- Work with the project team to prepare structural design and drawings for buildings (commercial, institutional, residential) from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion.
- Assist with structural analysis and design (gravity, wind, seismic) for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry systems, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Support renovation and existing-building work, including site measurements, review of existing documents, and preparation of condition observations and recommendations.
- Assist with coordination and constructability reviews; help resolve design issues and document decisions.
- Review shop drawings and support responses to RFIs/submittals.
- Perform field review for projects under construction and document findings.
- Communicate progress, questions, and design intent clearly to team members and project leads.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering (structures focus preferred). Master's Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Eligible for registration (or currently registered) as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA; commitment to pursuing P.Eng. licensure.
- 0-3 years of relevant experience in the execution of commercial, institutional, or residential buildings (co-op/internship experience considered).
- Familiarity with REVIT Structure preferred. Bluebeam also an asset.
- Familiarity with applicable building codes and standards (e.g., NBCC and CSA standards) is an asset.
- Familiarity with structural analysis/design tools (e.g., ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, RAM, etc.) and strong Excel skills preferred.
- Client focused, always striving to give clients the best solutions.
- Demonstrated experience of collaboration in a diverse and inclusive team, working together toward technical excellence.
- Strong written and verbal communication (ability to document assumptions, calculation approaches, and field observations).
- Organized and attentive to detail; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Curious, coachable, and proactive in asking questions and seeking feedback.
Work Location & Arrangement
- This position is based in Calgary, AB, with a hybrid work arrangement (minimum 3 days per week in office).
- Local site visits/field reviews are required (typically within the Calgary area; occasional travel within Alberta may occur).
