We are seeking a diligent and organized Shipping Clerk to manage our outbound shipments from our Washington, D.C. facility. The Shipping Clerk will be responsible for preparing, processing, and coordinating the shipment of goods, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to all shipping regulations. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of shipping logistics and documentation. You will be the point person for ensuring our products reach their destinations safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing lists, and customs declarations.
- Verify the accuracy of outgoing shipments against orders, ensuring correct quantities and product types.
- Coordinate with carriers to schedule pickups and track shipments.
- Operate shipping equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (certification may be required).
- Ensure proper packaging and labeling of all outgoing shipments.
- Maintain a clean and organized shipping area, adhering to safety protocols.
- Communicate with internal departments (sales, warehouse) and external clients regarding shipment status.
- Process shipping claims and resolve any shipping-related discrepancies.
- Enforce adherence to safety guidelines, including the correct use of PPE .
- Handle various lifting tasks associated with preparing shipments, ensuring proper technique.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency of our logistics operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or vocational training is a plus.
- Previous experience in a shipping, receiving, or logistics role is preferred.
- Familiarity with shipping software and carrier portals.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Ability to perform tasks involving moderate physical exertion, including occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Knowledge of shipping regulations and documentation requirements.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and using appropriate PPE .
- Understanding of fundamental logistics principles.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a dynamic environment. This role is essential for maintaining customer satisfaction and ensuring the smooth flow of goods from our facility. A strong understanding of safe handling procedures, including proper lifting techniques and the use of required PPE , is paramount for this position within our logistics department.
