Recycling and Waste Supervisor

Emterra operates four of the larger Metro Vancouver Recycling and Waste
Centres that are located throughout the Lower Mainland.  These facilities
receive large volumes of waste that are consolidated and shipped to various
destinations in western North America. In addition, each facility contains
comprehensive recycling depots that divert materials away from disposal and
into the green economy.

The Recycling and Waste Centres are open 363 days per year. Applicants
must be willing and able to work four-day rotating shifts (i.e. four days
working and four days off).

We are looking for a scale
supervisor to improve the scale operations. You will be closely working with
Metro Vancouver scale management to take corrective actions when necessary,
implement new procedures, standardize the existing procedures across the four
facilities, train the new operators, and answer any inquiries they might have.
Currently, there are 16 scale operators.

The scale supervisor is a great
role if you are an organized person who pays attention to details and is comfortable
with cash transactions, scale closing, and opening procedures.

The scale supervisor must be flexible
to work with various teams in 4 sites and have the skills to manage
communications and solve problems.

The company will provide
extensive training and orientation to support the scale supervisor in
performing his/her daily tasks.

What Will
You Do

If you are a patient, energetic and
customer-focused person with ample experience as a weighmaster, consider
becoming a Scale Supervisor This role will train weighmasters to be proficient
in Autoscale and general office duties at all 4 Metro Vancouver Recycling and
Waste Centres. The Scale Supervisor will act as the primary liaison to Metro
Vancouver's weigh scale systems team and will endeavor to standardize the
training and operating procedures across the sites. Duties include:

  •  Understanding
    of Metro Vancouver scale operator procedures and will ensure they are
    understood and followed at each site.
  • Provide
    scheduled orientation and ongoing training to Weighmaster staff and
    Supervisors in accordance with Metro Vancouver and Emterra's procedures
    and policies.
  • Strive
    to enhance customer service experience, data accuracy, and processing
    efficiency of scaling inbound and outbound vehicles.
  • Evaluate
    scale operators' performance and conduct training when and if
    needed. 
  • Along
    with management, decipher where their services and attention are most
    needed to ensure operational success.
  • Perform
    other duties as assigned.

What Will
You Bring

  • Grade
    or GED equivalency; job-related post-secondary education considered an
    asset.
  • Reliable
    Transportation 
  • Minimum
    2 years of previous experience in a vehicle scaling or trainer role.
  • Must
    be proactive and willing to learn.
  • Must
    have good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability
    and willingness to work shift work (day and evening), and weekends.
  • A
    friendly personality combined with a "roll up your sleeves and get it
    done" attitude
